Question on Salvage yard Transmission for B6 A4 1.8T Quattro 5 speed *Pic included*

    Good afternoon,

I'm looking at some salvage yard transmissions in the area for a swap and noticed that they all seem to have an exposed steel shaft that I can't figure out. I looks like something attaches to this possibly since it doesn't look like its normally exposed to the elements. My car is in storage and I don't have my Bentley manual nearby to reference...

    Attached is a picture A4 Transmission.JPG

Can any one please help me in Identifying this part circled in red? is this transmission missing a part? is this supposed to look like this? Do I need to buy an additional part at the salvage yard that does on the transmission in the area?
