    Secondary De-Cats and Dealers

So, took my car in to the dealer this morning to get exhaust valve looked at as it rattles and squeaks. It also seems like it partially closes from time to time, or maybe one side is closing and the other isnt.

They took the car in, called me 5 minutes later telling me I modified the exhaust so they cant look at it and they are filling out paperwork and sending it to Audi, basically flagging my car. I was told, anytime I need to get warranty work done it needs to be OK'ed thru Audi in Germany and they cant tell me if it will be covered until any future work is done. I am not too concerned as it would be hard to deny warranty on my MAG ride (For example) all because I removed secondary cats. They also scanned the car and everything was normal, no codes. I figure they were checking to see if I was flashed.

I dont really care, as I try to avoid the dealer like the plague and likely plan on getting a tune but I figured I should give some people a heads up. Avoid the dealer, even for Oil Changes, if you have Secondary De-Cats.

Mine are OEM, they didn't care. They said if they didn't notify Audi it would be 'Warranty Fraud' lol

I'm really surprised they could notice the OEM secondary de-cat pipes.. Their techs must be pretty observant. Also crappy they are trying to not work on your mag ride problems because of a couple silly straight pipes.. Like that has anything to do with it. Dealers will do ANYTHING to get out of warranty work because they aren't getting paid by the customer.

i wonder if Dieselgate has made them ESPECIALLY sensitive to anything related to exhaust components.

I just bet it's Audi policy to look for anything in order to void warranties.. saves them money.

There is no issue with my MAG Ride...but he told me ANY Warranty work in the future will need to be OK'ed thru Audi Head Office.

from what ive been told some dealers in Miami, FL are mod friendly to a certain point. guess you just have to find the right person at the right dealer.

Sounds like you need a dealer mod. Are there any other dealerships you can take you car to for warranty work?

Next closest is 250kms ... anyway, if its flagged its flagged. I dont think they can say everything isnt covered. If my rear suspension fails they cant say my de-cats caused it...i dont think they can anyway. I understand them not wanting to touch the exhaust but if its a completely unrelated part I cant see them denying coverage.

He said the warranty isnt voided, it has been flagged and any future warranty work will need to be OK'ed by Audi...its very vague.

That sucks! I had a rattle as well with my left exhaust valve. My dealership replaced the exhaust under warranty with no questions asked, in fact the part was in within 2 days. I have the Milltek secondary exhaust pipes installed and MSS springs, they have never said anything about voiding my warranty. It must be dependent per dealership.

Its dealer to dealer...this one is known to be a stickler when it comes to Warranty...should have known. Its a pretty terrible dealer anyway to be honest. My wipers were skipping across the windshield, i took it in and all they did was clean the windshield. I took it in again and they told me wipers arent covered under warranty LOL ... lets just say an email has been sent off to the GM... buy a 70k car...wipers dont work...no big deallllll hah

My wipers have skipped since day 1 ... I’m assuming it was from crappy or cheap rubber blade inserts... was hoping when I replace them it goes away.

Likewise...ill just swap them out. Not worth the aggravation or paying what the dealer wants for wipers.

Guys just an FYI i just paid amazon a few months ago for bosh replacement wipers and they were skipping at first at low speed wiper setting.
So I don't really think it's an Audi issue. Now they don't skip that much or at all.

It's still something us owners shouldnt be paying out of pocket for on a 70k car, especially when the issue was present from day one :)

Agreed just wanted to let you know I think it's bosh fault. But yeah they should definitely swap them without complaining on a 70k car.

Audi Canada has been notified my car is modified, as per the dealer...not really sure what Audi Canada will do at this point but it could be worth a shot.

I am going to email the General Manager...maybe start there considering the overall service has been poor, aside from my sales guy who was amazing.

Mine is skipping too. WTF Audi.

I'll lube up the rubber and see what happens (with a Rain X wipe).

For any of you that are replacing wiper blades (mine only skipped for 500 miles); I’d strongly recommend Valeo brand (available on Amazon). Way better: way cheaper then Bosch. I’m impressed

That sucks to hear. Correct so i went to the dealership with my build sheet stating bypass pipes with can remember what sku #, dealer confirmed build sheet. Inspected the car and said it is build as per Audi build. So i told them cross check the cats and found that the parts listed isn't correct to build but they couldn't do anything because of Audi Canada and emissions so all Canadian cars even if spec of bypass pipes received the cats. Bypass pipe SKU# didn't show up in final build that i confirmed on their computer they reference the bypass pipes with the sku# provided and confirmed it was correct but no for our region so they couldn't even order them. More or less Audi pulled it out from us with no notification of change in build.

This is why i suggested numerous times to people to speak to the service manager prior to and modding and tell them your intentions to see if they're willing to work with you and not call you car on every lil thing. Personally when i spoke to the service manager i explained the issue with the pipes told him my intenstion and got a base on what i can and can do. For me he agreed its stupid the way Audi handled it and told me he will not call anything unless its been tuned.

I knew this dealer was anal about modding. It's my fault. Should have got my valves looked at prior to putting on the bypass pipes.

I did get clarification today though. My warranty is still intact. If Audi believes a future failure is caused by the pipes than they can deny a claim. It's a grey area. If my A.C. system fails they can't deny a claim for example.

These bypass pipes will not cause anything to fail...they are basically resonators...no 02 sensors, no data being read, no change to ecu, nothing like that. My fear is Audi will try and get away with not fixing things if they can. If my engine blows...it could get iffy. (I'm not concerned about that happening but Hey, stranger things have happened)

One of my wipers is skipping without having anything on it. I'm not sure if the dealer put anything on the windshield before they gave me the car. Is there anyway to fix it myself?

They build this amazing car and then become anal wards of its purity, typical Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung.

My driver side wiper has skipped since delivery and I wondered the same thing regarding the dealer putting something on the windshield. Fortunately it seems to have fixed itself so I’m assuming that whatever they may have put on the windshield may have worn off.

That's the same one that's skipping for me too. I've only had to use them once, so I'll give it some time.

Good to hear it will work out for you, it will be nice to finally get it resolved and you can enjoy the car. Yah its such a touchy subject dealer to dealer some are luckier than others. Personally i've been burnt a few times so im just a lil extra cautious, that's also why i mention it to others.
