    New Owner and Oil Temps

    Hey all,

I picked up a 2016 S3 Premium Plus this past Friday and while driving around on Sunday on the highway (roughly 80 mph and 3000 rpm's) I noticed my oil temperature was hovering right around 225 degrees. It was a really hot day at 90 degrees or so but I just thought it was pretty hot for normal driving. Anyone have similar temps just during normal cruising? My car is modified and is essentially an APR "Stage II" setup so it has the upgraded intercooler which may affect oil temperatures. Just wanted to see if this is normal or not.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Good to hear, thank you both for the quick responses! Not that I plan to any time in the near future, but I would assume additional oil cooling is pretty much mandatory for any kind of track use (road course, not 1/4 mile)?

Same here..220-230 is normal. These EA888 engines actually take a lot longer to get to operating temp than my previous cars.. probably has to do with CAFE mandated fuel sipping design

IMO - nothing to be concerned about. Any synthetic oil is good to well well north of 300 deg. I ran track cars without oil coolers that ran 320+ without any issues. Had race cars that ran at 240 - 280 with oil coolers for hours at a time. . .
