Here's the motor I found a while ago and it was a steal

Yes plug n play. Doesn't look like turbo is included so youll need to use your original turbo

Cool driftcar project though and first b8 rwd

Personally id go 4.0 v8 TT if your doing something crazy
The best v8 to get would be LS or Coyote that would be really crazy

I put a 2013 engine almost 3 years ago in my b8 a4. Took a ton of research and Elsa was a big help! I still have my b8 a4 and drive it daily. Here is a link to get you started http://lovetodiyandmore.com/page8.php?category=19
Almost forgot, if you buy a used engine always do a compression check and a leak down test for extra insurance before you install it, you would hate pay someone to install the engine and have to pull it back out Bec the used engine had problems, plus lkq and most salvage yards will replace them, if you call them within the first day or two of receiving it.

Okay. I'm trying to decide which mechanic to go with. 1 mechanic is charging $3200 for the motor and $1500 for labor plus cost of other small items. See attachment.

This mechanic is saying that he knows about LKQ but they are just pulled from cars at junkyard while his motors are pulled and then work is done to them before he gets them. He says this is what is done - Timing chain fixed.
    Rebuild cylinder head
Carbon clean , ports brand new
    Replaced stem seals
    Replaced timing chain tensioner

    ------

On the other hand, this other mechanic will just plug & play the motor that I buy from LKQ. The labor costing $1000 and motor costing $2500. He will add the small items listed in first mechanics invoice if they need to be replaced.

What do you guys think? Will the motor from LKQ be fine as is, or should I pay more and get one from this mechanic and pay extra for him to work on it? I want to do this proper.

4seasons is a great vw/Audi tuning shop but here's the thing. You don't need a vw/Audi specialist to do this swap. If your not mechanically inclined enough yourself your local mechanic can do this swap(so the second mechanic sounds imo better. Lkq is just pulling motors but I don't see the need to replace water pump on a 35k-45k motor unless it's leaking or not working
Same goes for rebuilding the head? Why unless there's something wrong with it but on a 35k-45k motor?
Seems like stuff you do if you got money to blow.

Timing chain fixed? All 2013 and up motors have the fixed versions of tensioners and I doubt the chain is stretched at that mileage. Have mechanic replace with latest revision though since motor is out

However I would recommend the carbon cleaning and replacing any seals that look bad since the motor is right there also I'd reccomend a rear main seal upgrade to future proof that. Don't get oem get the beefier aftermarket tsi one.

Go with cheaper mechanic or do it yourself

How much would a 2010 a4 with 100k miles and a blown engine be worth? Automatic transmission, Quattro, black leather interior, everything in good condition. As an estimate, of course

This is all pointless BS unless he can provide some kind of warranty in writing for so called improvements.

Idk about worth but considering blue book on one not blown at that mileage is 9-10. I would pay no more than 4.5-5.5k realistically do I could do a swap and still maintain value to resell

Not really bs. 4seasons is a great shop but they are offering a motor swap plus work that will prevent anything failing right after a swap. Not bullshit just unneeded extras

because you can buy an 09 that runs for around the same price they quoted for the repair, car isnt worth that much to warrant dumping that much into it. You can never make that money back.

Keep it simple, if you are going to rebuild this unfortunate loss. Value/worth/etc are all up to the owner and are all offset by how deep his pockets run.
Not only that, OP is in CA, can't legally swap a 2JZ into a B8.

Anyone swapping a 2jz isn't worried about legality more then power. Hence many 2jz swaps rolling In ca in a lexus
