Really off topic...buuuuut as a car enthusiast it's relevant.

Got engaged two days ago and yesterday was my birthday. Amazing definitely. Great girl. Icing on the cake is she said I can still have car parts! Should I create a prenup or get this in writing?

Haha, congrats! Well she is a keeper, so don't go overboard now with parts.

Yes, yes you should. Even though my wife is into cars this hobby can get very expensive because I've found the best way to avoid confrontation is to start up a matching program...

every time i put a grand into a car you put that same grand into something for your wife ;)

Never...i repeat never... say "Honey we don't really have money to be replacing that solid wood RH dining table we just bought last year and is,in absolutely perfect shape." When a box full of coilovers just arrived at the door.

I just try and remember that if I need $2,500 for coilovers what I really need is $5,000 for coilovers if you catch my drift

    Congrats btw!

Money puts stress on all relationships. If you both make enough of it, she won't change her attitude about your interests. And make sure you support her interests, regardless of the cost...it works both ways.

Congrats on the engagement and happy birthday! I just got married last year and my wife couldn't care less about what I buy. Then again, if she did care, we wouldn't have gotten married.

Stay true to yourself. You're an enthusiast and you'll likely always be one. Don't let the modding stop just because you're sharing your life with someone.

Seriously, this is a "real" issue that you need to work on! Best thing my wife and I did was to set up a monthly allowance for each of us - base it on what you can afford in your budget - and have separate accounts for this. This way, she can buy whatever she wants and you can buy whatever you want and there are zero arguments as to who's spending how much on what. Then you've got your joint account for "community" type things such as mortgage, house items, food etc etc etc

    Congrats!

My experience: engagement is on par with dating; marriage is like dating with commingled funds; having a kid is the game changer

HPDEs are where you really start getting into $$$$, just in case you want to test your fiancÚ's devotion

P.S. The Langham in Boston is great for a small wedding:

I'm not going crazy with the car, per se. Stage 2 single pulley possibly, although I keep hearing about cats blowing which can then lead to an expensive road, especially in Boston where I can't get away with a catless car. Outside of drive train inserts and sway bars which I've already done, Boston roads are relentless so I won't be lowering my car at all.

Heat ecu she definitely, methanol is a definite desire as my previous car was meth tuned.

On the subject of tunes though. Once I'm at stage 2 single pulley, are there any limitations to what specific crank pulleys I can use with specific tuners? In other words, are there more durable crank pulleys I can couple with an APR tune or a GIAC tune other than using the APR and AWE pulleys respectively?

Yes, pretty much. The amount of useless garbage we have in our tiny apartment is insane. We're looking to buy house but part of me doesn't want to cause it'll be filled with more useless stuff like 10 pairs of sheets lol

My wife both insisted then demanded these damn pillows for the bed, the fancy extra decoration ones. Between the cost of the covers and pillows themselves must have been $250 (stupid bed bath beyond prices)....they have sat in the corner of the bedroom for over 3 years now...

I asked why the hell do we need these, for when people come over and the sneak into our room...sigh.

Then again she asks me the same damn thing regarding car parts lol.

lol. I got married last year and have put about $15k in mods into this car. The woman thinks it's ridiculous but she doesn't try to stop it unless I try to mod her A4. If you make the cheddar the wife shouldn't complain, especially if you're the breadwinner :P

Like another said, if she doesn't allow money to be spent on cars, no reason to marry.

yes but perception is everything. your wife drives a good looking white range rover and to most people that would be the nicer car between the s5 and RR.

to any normal person you already gave ground.

Yeah my fiancÚ doesn't have any clue about how much things cost for my car but as long as I don't let it affect OUR life it won't be a problem. At least that's what she says right now; who knows the day after the wedding lol.

^ Well, that's where the trouble may lie. Its easy for her to be cool with your purchases, and you hers, when neither of you has any idea what the other is actually spending. Its really not about what you're buying, but how much it costs.

My wife and I have multiple accounts.

We have an account for the living expenses and everything dealing with that.

Then we each have our own accounts. Since we both work it works out very well for us. If she wants to buy some new shoes I do not care what or how much. Likewise for me and my hobbies. our bills are covered and we both look at money and debt the same way.

For this to work though you have to be aligned. may not work for everyone but works great for us.

If you like your cars, keep kids out of the mix too for a while.

No matter how much you "match" a car part for a wife gift, you'll always be playing catch up. What you bought her today is something that (in her mind) matches what you bought yourself weeks ago.

Try to pay it forward sometime... that's when the points add up. Get her something, and don't get yourself shit. This element of surprise keeps things fresh.

Oh, and.... all your parts, no matter what it is, adds to the SAFETY of the car. Never forget this.

every time i put a grand into a car you put that same grand into something for your wife ;)

That right there is some good advice lmbo I've gotta try this!
