Exclamation New 3.0 turbo S5 vs previous 3.0 supercharged

    Hey guys,
I'm currently driving a B8.5 S5 SB and loving every minute of it. Thinking about my next car a few years down the road, I was wondering if anyone here moved from the B8/B8.5 S5 (just the supercharged version) to the B9 and can share the experience so far. Is the turbo lag significant, especially coming from the no-lag SC version? Is the switch from the dual-clutch to the torque converter noticeable? Or any other details you noticed while making this switch.

    Thanks :)

go drive it. thats the best answer you will get. everyones impression is different. i actually like the new torque converter better than the twin clutch. others will disagree. its personal preference.

Yeah, that would be ideal but I'm in eastern europe and over here people mostly buy diesels and 1.6 petrols so no dealers have performance cars for test drives...

Trade up for sure, imho. The dual scroll turbo brings a lot of torque right down to the 1350 rpm spot...plenty of low end torgue. Also, the tranny is a surprise...I like it better than the dual clutch. Granted it doesn't have that "second kind of cool" but it shifts fast and smooth. I'm looking forward to track days and regular Solo events.

As above, I preferably the new tranny, no low rpm low speeding clunk. The tech, there is basically no turbo lag with the twins scroll. Pleasure to drive and is quick to boot.

There is more usable power in the B9 S5. The B8.5 supercharged motor bypasses the supercharger in a lot of situations and driving habits. A tune would clear up that problem. Stock for stock the B9 is a better car.

What kind of situations are you talking about? Not sure what you mean by "bypasses the supercharger"

The supercharger has a bypass valve. Bleeding off boost. The tunes disable this through the ECU. Do a google search and you will find more indebted information

It has more torque than the B8 but significantly more lag of the line.

Significantly more lag? I don't think so.

I agree. The lag time is very short.

I had 2 S4s a 13 and previously a 10. Both were supercharged & DSG. I drove the living h#ll out of both cars 70,000 km per year. I had them both for two years. If I were buying another S4 I would have preferred the supercharged engine. Since it's gone there is nothing we can do. I agree test drive the new one & see how ya like it or hang onto what you have. Happy hunting.
