Top two pictures are before, last two after all assembled. Comparing full view pictures on the left, you can definitely note timing chain stretch when you look at distance between chains inside the two main guides. After initial and properly timed installation (all marks and colored links aligned) I turned the engine over CW numerous times thinking I would eventually get all timing marks and colored chain links to align once more (as a double check before I buttoned it all up). After about 50 revolutions by hand (with plugs out of course) I gave up. Later read Audi reference that stated it would take about 160 revolutions of the engine to return to the initial position with all timing marks and colored chain links lining up. Mmmmm....only 110 to go. Don't think so.
Replaced serpentine belt tensioner and idler pulley, belt too.
Not too bad, just took my time. Car runs like a top now, much smoother. New plugs and R8 coils too.

    117k miles
Sorry for the horizontal picture orientation...they were correct in my files

Couple more before close ups...especially of the old tensioner. If you compare the right picture of old balance shaft chain tensioner (smaller one below cam chain tensioner) to the full "after" picture in the first posting, you can see how much more the old tensioner was extended.

Removing the bottom timing cover was a tedious process to avoid bending the cover. Used a couple of beveled stainless steel putty knives to break the sealant bond around the perimeter of the cover (pushed in between mating parts). Probably broke the bond ~75% the way around and was easy to remove without damage. Installed latest revision of front oil seal, cleaned and degreased both surfaces. Sealed tight, no leaks.

Bill, Should be very proud of that one...don't see too many around, regardless of condition. I looked on and off for several years and never pulled the trigger. Found a few K75 and K100 bikes overpriced and maintenance not kept up to date. A few nice ones were snapped up before I found them. Unfortunately, do not ride as much as I did but still have fun from time to time with the toys. Those two grandkids keep Pappa pretty busy these days.

Btw, ever check to see if you have latest version timing chain tensioner in those 2.0L's?
