ABE 300whp Low Budget Project / Diary

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello.

I have picked up a VW AEB engine with 220.000km.
The plan is to take it apart, change the rods, bearings ang gaskets.

I want to hit the 300whp mark ant therefor I ask you guys what more parts do you suggest to change?

I havent desided what turbo I will use yet.

I know it cost to buil an engine, but I want to use minimal whit money so therefor I will search for used parts and ebay parts.

If anyone have parts to sell and willing to ship to Norway I would be glad to hear from you.

I have read alot of post here on Audizine and I think my buy list have the most necessary parts on it.

Correct me if Im wrong or there are parts that isnt necessary

If someone have a good deal links on those parts, post them to me av PM.

Out of all the things on your list you probably won't need the fuel rail or the pistons. Both OEM will support your goals.

    cheapest route is:
    1. Scat connecting rods ($300)
    2. Fuel injectors (1000cc if you're doing e85 or 550cc for pump gas) ~$200- $400
    3. Fuel pump (255lph walbro or 450lph walbro) ~$100
    4. OEM "N" version DV 06A145710N ~$50
    5. Turbo that flows ~40 lbs/min, and oil lines and turbo coolant lines.
    6. ebay FMIC and piping ~$200
    7. matching exhaust manifold and downpipe
    8. TUNE. You don't need a manual boost controller if you get the proper tune. ~$500 or you can learn how to tune yourself; but it's pretty hard. (NEFMOTO.COM)

You don't need pistons, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, arp head studs, intake manifold, intake manifold spacer, and 2.0 coil packs. You can use the OEM parts. It should be good for 300awhp.

Highly recommend you upgrade all vacuum air and pcv hoses to silicone, (unless doing delete). This is not a performance upgrade, but more of a reliability and peace-of-mind upgrade. Also check all the plastic valves for cracks and oil buildup.
If this project will be a daily driver, I'd advise against the pcv delete.

AEB cannot be tuned via NEFMOTO, for clarification.

That might even be a little high, but with meth that's about right. On E85 mine put down 286 awhp on a Mustang Dyno, so not too far from the 300 goal.

But he may want to go a bit bigger for sure. I usually run mine on pump gas, and it's plenty of power for daily driving for my needs. Still fun over a year after install. And zero issues too.

Maybe it's the stock MAF that can only support 240

Any forged rod ebay, eagle, scat whatever.
modified 630cc bosch 1000cc injectors (sounds overkill. DO IT)
Do not get a 710n they're shit. They rupture sooner or later, like for me first time I hit over 25psi. Dont get a knock off forge.
Tuning=meastro or that Australian guy. Your only options pretty sure.
    no piston upgrade.
no valvetrain upgrade- NEVER push 7000 stock springs. You'll go past it a bit anyways.
Do a compression test and if good literally jut rods reuse bearings in same spot.

    afr gauge
    egt gauge

    I can't really suggest a turbo.. I am soured by the range you're wanting. I did it personally with a comp 5456 pretty easily. 76mm 54mm / 56mm 64mm?

Idk input for whatever it's worth. Go as big as you can first time around and tune small. 1300cc @4bar work great with 10 psi and 50psi. doesn't matter. You don't need meth. You need big intercooler, large enough injectors and egt gauge. Not many get an egt gauge that i've noticed, but it tells you a lot and can save you.

    Stock fuel rail
3 vs 4 bar fpr is tune related and doesn't really matter.
I'd highly suggest getting made a 3" v band downpipe. DO NOT GET 034's pre-made garbage you'll have to rework it and it's way over priced.

If you have a large port aeb head just stick with stock intake manifold. Even if it's small port. You aren't going to the moon. No spacer

Find a wrecked 2.0 car vw or audi (got mine from a golf) and wire in that harness for the icm delete. Don't have to spend millions.

No reason a simple ball and spring manual boost controller wont work. I used one for 3 years never had any issues.

What car is this that you want a transverse intake manifold?
My turbo suggestion is BW 6758. Are there emissions restrictions as well as visual checks that you need to pass?

hmm idk... just from my 700 mile experience I'm just gonna go ahead and say that united motorsports stage 3 tune is amazing... However, I work at a machine shop so the 9.25.1 je pistons and manleys rods I chose were a given and went 40 over on bore and ported and polished the aeb head on my down time. With the ra4 stage 2 clutch (rs4 clutch and light weight flywheel), the franken, 630 cc injectors, vr6 maf housing, rai test pipe, 034 icm delete with 2.0 fsi coils, cx racing intercooler, forge 008 dv, upgraded valve springs and valves, rs4 mounts, so on so on... having a fwd, I have no traction 1st thru 3rd. Built the car for autocross and the torque curve is phenomenal. Having driven some large turbo aebs as well as k04 b5 s4 stage 2-3, the car keeps up atleast until you hit around 70 mph (have yet to find area to do 3rd gear pull). I take into account however, the parasitic loss at the wheel of an awd vs fwd. Being honest, don't follow my path with a fwd. I'm sure the hp number is following for what you are hoping for but a gt2871 garret will do the trick and then some. Seeing boost and instant torque from stoplight to stoplight....frankenturbo :)

Do I have to go for forged pistons or can I buy Mahle piston kits on ebay? They are not forged but much much lower price than forged

Factory pistons are just fine for 300 whp - i wouldn't change them for that unless you have your heart set on a 2L stroker.
