Glad to hear you're happy with the tune. I honestly don't think I've heard anyone complain about stage 1 from any tuner. As far as pulleys go, you'd definitely feel a noticeable difference in the mid-range by upping your pulley ratio. I noticed a significant difference even now going from the standard Stage 2 SC pulley (2.808 ratio) to dual pulley with a 187mm Fluidampr (3.238 ratio). Keep in mind that above a certain ratio you need upgraded cooling to keep IAT under control. My personal opinion if you ever go Stage 2 is to just get a Fluidampr rather than a SC pulley. The stock crankshaft pulley is considered a weak point to begin with, and the Fluidampr provides superior damping while also being easier to install than the SC pulley and also gives the option to swap rings to change your pulley size.

BTW, it looks like you're in NJ. There's more than couple of us tuned to various levels in the area, so maybe you can get some seat time at a GTG later in the summer. I also wouldn't mind checking out your Stage 3 B5 S4 haha.
thats cool that there's some other q5 in the area.
yeah a gtg would be a great way to see different setups and see whats what. im definitely curious about what mods i want to do and nothing like seeing and talking to people that some experience.
so how reliable is spinning the sc faster? any transmission concerns? i also read that porting and polishing the sc gets some good gains.

The general consensus seems to be that the blower is efficient up to about 24,000 RPM. The factory redline on the SQ5 is 6900 RPM if you disable auto upshift and drive in manual mode (I think the Q5 3.0T is lower than that unless your tuner tweaks things). If you're running the APR dual pulley ratio of 3.238, that puts you at a max of 22,342 RPM (3.238 x 6900 RPM). And in auto it shifts well before that, so you should be well within the optimal efficiency range of the blower.

I've read threads on porting and polishing the supercharger, but you'll have to poke around on the S4 forum for more info.

I also read a bit on our ZF8 and how much power it can support, but it's unclear to me what exact version we have. @spijun had posted at one point on AW that it was the 8HP90, which seems like overkill, but he's always been a reliable source of info. Either way, assuming the trans has to handle the torque of the diesel model, then the transmission shouldn't be an issue on the TFSI. I'd be more concerned about heat and the associated issues that can cause.

Good information. However, the 24k RPM blower speed is listed as "maximum," not efficient range.
Overall, it's simple math. Just don't over-spin that bitch.

this is good info.i have alot to learn about my q5 and supercharging. definitely a cool way to make power.im use to turbos and unfortunately the lag ,especially with
bigger turbos and being conscious of what rpm your at. the sc is instant power. At the same time I don't want to wreck my brand new toy

    Riceboy22 and SQive are correct.

TONS of 3.0Ts have been 'spinning the blower faster' for years. Stage 2 S4/S5s are a dime a dozen. Also, the S4/S5 DP guys rev higher than S/Q5s can. The supercharger is not something I'm remotely concerned about in the context of the tunes that are available. We're not at 24k, but we are FAR out of our 'efficiency' range at 20k+. As long as we're still making more power, we're good though.

It's pretty ridiculous that we can't seem figure out the exact rating of our ZF8 (and the TDI could have a different rating, but all indications would point to the exact same trans with same final drive and all). However, the general consensus for the absolute minimum rating in the S/Q5 is the 8HP55 which is 550 N-m (406 lbf-ft). The NA TDI (and SQ5 TDI for that matter) has to be higher than that though. Also, the SQ7 (429 hp/660 lbf-ft) has got to have the 8HP90 which is 900 N-m (664 lbf-ft). However, I have a hard time believing Audi paired a 664 lbf-ft rated trans to a 346 lbf-ft rated engine for a number of reasons.

Welp, that wasn't terribly hard. Straight from ZF, here's their service information sheet to change the transmission oil (good to have).

They list the 8HP45, 8HP65, and 8HP90 for Audi. The 55 and 90 have a M10x1.0 drain plug. The 55 takes 5 mm hex socket, and the 90 a 8 mm. If the drain plug is a bayonet instead of bolt, it's the 65. Now, who wants to go crawl under and check...? I won't be with my car until tomorrow night, but my money is on finding a 5 mm hex drain plug on the NA SQ5.

The SC isn't the problem but the cooling seems to becoming a problem at the higher turn ratio. to cool it down fast enough it has a heat exchange that seems to be cracking the intercoolers.

Yeah, those with very aggressive cooling have had some issues, but that's a special case. There's a company working on new intercoolers, and they're not hard to swap when/if they develop leaks.

To be clear, for those who do not want to jump back and find the post this is related to: Am I hearing you confirm that the EPL Stage 1 tune will hit 130 mph rather than the 125 that you reported in an earlier post?

I'd rather see them lift the OEM limit altogether, but I doubt I will ever encounter a circumstance where I will be exceeding 130 mph where I am driving my Q5.

Yes I am confirming that it is still set to the OEM limit of 130. I am not sure why it only hit 125 last time, but I hit 130 twice today. I too would like the limiter to be removed and I will request that when I talk to Chris next.

Yeah- 130 is too easy to hit in a tuned 3.0t. I've been 140+ plenty of times. Sometimes I feel like my foot is stuck to the floor...I know I should let up but just can't do it, haha. APR wins the speed limiter battle...for now.

I agree... It comes up way to fast and I would like to see how much more is left.. Of all the cars I have owned and tuned this is the first that left the speed limiter on....

I'm discussing Stage 2 options with Chris now. I'll ask about lifting speed limit. Not that I will use it, but it ought not be there on that tune or even Stage 1.
