    01 1.8t 3 inch exhaust

Hey guys so to start things off i have a 3" test pipe in replace for the cat. Now I bought a custom 3 inch straight pipe off some dude on craigslist and honestly it isn't even bad when it comes to the welds and what not. Now the thing about the exhaust is that he used the stock 2 inch flange from the stock exhaust and slapped it on the 3 inch pipe and made the necessary bends and such. I obviously know that this will cause a bottleneck effect but I'm just curious as to how bad it really will be. My friend who has done a fair share with exhaust work said that it may not effect performance one bit and may have a small chance of making the car run worse, i think thats total bs but he has more experience than me. Just wondering what're some thoughts you guys have on this. Thanks!

Should be fine, stock turbo? You wont notice a decrease or increase in power.

I forgot to mention I plan on getting a stage 1 tune pushing about 15-18 pounds. Just wondering if that bottle neck would affect it a whole lot or if I'd be better off buying a 3 inch flange with the proper piping

i doubt it. you are correct it will affect flow, but 2" is good to like 200bhp, and the closer to the turbo the more critical it becomes. if the cat is 3" and you throw it on it may not be "ideal" but it will only cost you a few hp at worst.

3" not really needed for stock or stg 1 but it will help some and gives you room to grow Enjoy

I ran 2 1/4 all the way up to 350hp. You'll be plenty fine.

That bottleneck will not affect anything, as others have stated.

From high school? A college party? That time I stole your mom's virginity?

Ok, that last one was a bit harsh lol. And would also imply that I am approximately 18 years older than you. And unless you are 10, that isn't true.
