Sorry for the double post, couldn't find the edit button on this forum.
I wouldnt buy any 2010. It's a longshot that they replaced the tensioner.

I'm looking at B8 A4s, 6-speed, with the sport package, preferably certified used. This one caught my eye though I really am looking for newer. anyways, the sport seats look to have alcantra centers, yet I cant seem to find that on any newer ones on cars.com / autotrader. Was this a custom job or seats from another Audi?

I'm looking at a B8 2011 which has only rear paking sensors. Will it show it on the car screen when i use them? (like this : https://i.ytimg.com/vi/EBP2DA0T_No/maxresdefault.jpg )

edit: also, how do you think the parking will be without the front parking sensors?

Not sure what car you're looking at, but from what I figured out the only cars with the alcantra inserts in the states have both the prestige trim package and s line package.

That would do it. Pretty close to what I was looking for in my search but didn't find much locally. The alcantra was a big attraction for me. Some of the folks here are still iffy on the 2012. I don't have any experience on that and just became a b8.5 owner a couple weeks ago.

I am looking at a 2009 B8 that has had the pistons and rings done by Audi, and has a new turbocharger due to a P0299 code. Would there be any other reservations for this car, being it is a 2009?

It has also had the power steering TSB done due to the shudder at low speed turning. Control arms are original, but I can do these myself no problem if ever needed. I really liked the way it drove vs the B7 platform!

If all that stuff is done and documented then yeah it could be a good buy. If it's Quattro with an automatic trans it's a 6 speed vs the 8 speed in the 2011+ cars, which is still a downside. If it's a manual you're all good.

hello all, I stopped my search for an A4 back a while ago after all the talk of the oil consumption issue and since everything newer was out of my price range, I just decided to continue driving my old volvo. That volvo is almost done so I'm back to looking. slowly.

I think I found a great deal, but there is a problem.

    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=183892266

its clearing had an accident and apparently they fixed everything but the wheel. can't find a carfax but I'm sure I don't want to see it.

That said, I did find one but it doesn't have the navigation control, and isn't the Prem+ that I was looking for. But something seems off with the price and mileage/year in my area. anyone have any thoughts on this one?

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail

    thanks.

edit: after I posted the link and hit submit, I clicked the link and my personal info was on the right side of the ad. You all seem like great people, but Id rather not have my personal info listed so easily. I can't figure out how to remove it from the website as I'm not logged in but I once sent a message to someone selling an A4 and I guess cars.com is keeping the info :/ if someone has a solution, please let me know as Id really like to get your opinions on this 2013 A4 Prem.

I'm pretty sure the info is just in your browser's cache and no one else will see it, kind of like when you browse cars on dealership websites and it remembers which cars you've viewed before. You can try it by clicking the link on another device. I'm on a hunt for an A4 myself and I've dodged many attempting deals with hidden problems, so I'd be curious to see the one you're looking for.

I agree with the poster above, it's likely in your cache (like how FB saves your login but other people aren't on your profile if you send them a URL). Happy to check the car over and let you know if the info is there if you want to DM me the link as well.

I recently saw a nice 2010 2.0T with 129k miles in the color combo I've been looking. Normally I skip cars with that many miles but this one had pistons replaced at 80k, seems to be well maintained and has LED tail lights etc. The guy is asking $10,500 OBO, I'm sure I can talk him to go lower because of the mileage, so the price would be lower that I'm usually expecting to pay. But even with rebuilt engine I don't know if it would make sense to buy this. Sometimes I see Audis with 300k miles still going strong and I get all confident about high mileage cars, but then I read about 2.0 engines that were rebuilt and later start to consume oil again.

    Thoughts?

Lately I've seen quite a few nice 2012 A4s that fit the criteria I have for my next car. I know in 2012 the oil consumption issues with the 2.0T engines were almost completely gone, but at the same time I've seen people with 2012 B8s reporting excessive oil consumption. What do you guys think? So far I've only considered B8s that are either 3.2 or 2.0T that have had pistons replaced. Just thinking if I'm stupid for ruling out 2012 models, since most of them are probably fine.

My current B6 is consuming oil like the devil itself and now that I have enough money to upgrade the last thing I want to do is to get another oil consuming Audi. But I love the A4 so much that I don't want anything else, lol. B8.5 would be perfect but it's hard to find one that fits in my budget.

2012s are almost completely resolved. If the price difference between '12 and '13 models is significant, you'd likely be safe with a '12. They were completely resolved in '13.

I'd recommend carbonimports.ca, they have quality products. I was about to go the ECS route till one of my old buddies put me on their page. Shipped out pretty quick and fit was good.

I think there is a lot of "truth" in market value. Meaning there is a reason why the market value is lower than a competitor vehicle such as a Mercedes C Class. The Merc C classes are holding their value better when you look at "comps.". The Audi A4s are few grand cheaper. The data on the Merc shows it more reliable. A 2010 B8 is a gamble, and I would say it's potentially a decent value IF you beat the odds - and perhaps can do your own repairs.

Extremely helpful chart, I added it to the original post as an additional data point since it goes beyond anecdotal references.

I also made a few more revisions to the original guide which were overdue.

Project Quatro and AL, apologies for not getting back to you on the car I was checking out. the listing sold shortly after I posted so i figured no need to post the ad.

Im going to look at one this morning thats a bit out of my price range (hoping I can talk them down a bit) but the mileage is very low for the 2013s I've recently been looking at. Unfortunately, theres no pics of the interior and only a stock photo of the exterior. I'll hopefully post a link when I return later on. (AL, I get the sense we are both looking for similar cars on opposite coasts.)

One thing I don't know enough about but have seen mentioned on the forums is Flex Fuel. The car I'm going to look at has "gasoline" listed on the cars. com ad, but has "flex fuel" listed on the carfax.

What exactly is Flex Fuel? are there other engine/transmission/maintenence issues with these?

Yeah it sounds like it! I'm getting a little frustrated with my search, B8.5s very rarely are within my budget (at least here in SoCal) and 99% of the B8s have the 2.0T that might or might not have oil consumption issues. I recently saw a really nice A5 and also been looking at some A6s, now I'm having a hard time deciding what to get. Still keeping my eyes open for the perfect B8 A4 but it feels like there's something wrong with every potential car that I find. Anyway, good luck for your search, hope you find the car you're looking for!

So the car that I mentioned earlier either sold or was pulled from listing. if it sold, just for reference sake (link), it was listed at 15,793 for a black/black 2013 A4 with just over 33k miles. from my ridiculously long search, thats pretty cheap for that mileage. As for why I passed, it was very basic on the inside, no nav, no reverse camera, MMI in the dash not past the shifter (aesthetic issue to me), and while it was close to my budget, I didnt want to start a whole negotiation for something I wasn't really satisfied in terms of interior. The funny thing is, it was on cars.com as a used car for a kia dealer but when I went to check it out the salesman had no clue where or what it was, ended up driving to a service location for the dealer who handles kia, vw, audi, porsche and searching for the car. was still due to have break pads replace and detailing. Anyway.

I saw a few more in the last few days...

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...6394/overview/

this one was nice but CVT. When I mentioned to the guy it wasn't a quattro and was a CVT, he was surprised by that and sort of looked like he had no idea. No point in buying an audi w/o quattro imo.

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...2342/overview/

this one was nice, although also needed detailing as theres some gunk on the inside of the glove box, some minor tears in the leather in the back, and like a divot in the wood paneling on the passenger side. Not a major issue. really like the interior and was surprised Id like the interior color but doesn't look bad in person. Its out of my budget but was thinking of leaving it there for a week or two or three and if it was still there negotiate on it. Unfortunately, the dealership let me know fairly quickly that they were jokers. While I was playing around with the MMI and trying to see if there were any warnings on it (first time I've played with that, pretty cool) the salesman was yapping about 2000 and loyalty program. As we were walking back to the office I asked what he was talking about and he tells me that the price listed (16,495) was for their loyalty customers. If you had a trade for a car you bought from them within the last 2/3 years, then thats the price. otherwise, its that price +2k. I laughed at him and pointed to the printed cars ad and said "so you don't stand by the price you advertised it at?" the salesman told me to hold on and came back with his manager who, apparently thought that I didnt understand what a deal it was to spend another 2k above their ADVERTISED price. Again, pointed out the printed copy of their advertised rate and he said unless I was in the loyalty program, it would be +2k. I told him, I will never be a loyalty customer with you as I will never buy a car from you for the rest of my life. Obviously, if we can't agree on the starting point, theres no reason to negotiate and left.

    Now this one...

this was gorgeous. Out of my price range but I was a man on a mission that day to see a few A4s in the same day to just get a good comparison in my head for future reference. this was really nice. looked like it was taken care of from the inside and out. the car fax showed an accident in the back but looks to have to been fixed very well and no paint differences. Asked if was willing to negotiate and he said he just lowered the price from the past month or so. Ive been looking daily on cars .com and I don't recall seeing that car listed at a higher price, but its possible. It was a long day with a lot of driving and didnt want to try to nudge him lower yet. If its still there in a few weeks I might go back and try.

He also had, I'm pretty sure a 2015, A3 in santorini blue (not sure if thats the true name for it, but it looked exactly like my old 2001 A4 in that color. I think I rather have that than an A4 but there no chance I will find one in my price range for at least another year until the leases start to run out.

anyway, really appreciate all the info all of you have added to this thread over time. Ive followed along and figured others might want to see what Im finding on the right coast.

edit: apologies for the long post, it was a long day car searching

As for why I passed, it was very basic on the inside, no nav, no reverse camera, MMI in the dash not past the shifter (aesthetic issue to me), and while it was close to my budget, I didnt want to start a whole negotiation for something I wasn't really satisfied in terms of interior. The funny thing is, it was on cars.com as a used car for a kia dealer but when I went to check it out the salesman had no clue where or what it was, ended up driving to a service location for the dealer who handles kia, vw, audi, porsche and searching for the car. was still due to have break pads replace and detailing. Anyway.

I saw a few more in the last few days...

this one was nice but CVT.

Check Valenti and Weeks Preowned, both in CT. They both trade heavily in CPO and used Audis and can sometimes have good deals. YMMV with customer service at Weeks. Mine was not good, although the car is great. Fairfield Audi has amazing service and competitive pricing as well; my girlfriend and I have both bought from them and I have nothing but good things to say. It may be worth the drive if you can find the right car.

Thanks Project. I'll check those dealers out.

separate question for anyone with knowledge/experience here... why buy a salvage title vehicle? I just found the section of the forum for audi sales and noticed a few with salvage title. Is there some sort of market inefficiency thats worth exploiting? I highly doubt I'd have the cojones to buy a salvage titled audi but I'm intrigued.

I have no personal experience but Iíd say unlikely, for two different reasons. First is that most ways that a car becomes salvaged (flood, fire, accident) are highly likely to leave lingering issues. Second is purely economic... youíll never get as much for it as a clean titled car so there isnít that much of an efficiency to exploit since it gets you on the back end anyway. I wouldnít personally consider one unless it was truly a forever car, and even then a theft recovery is probably the only one I would consider.

Man it's hard to find a good used car, after months of looking I haven't had much luck and I'm still searching.

There's one 2010 A4 that checks all my boxes when it comes to features & color and it has pistons replaced by Audi, everything that I'm looking for except the mileage. Been looking for something at approximately 100k miles or less, this one has 129k. The owner recently dropped the asking price by $1,500. It's been on a sale for a while now and I feel like the asking price is starting to reflect the mileage pretty well.

I just sent him a message asking if the timing chain/tensioner was replaced while replacing the pistons. With that kind of mileage that's one thing I'd have to take care of, I've seen too many owners with ruined engines because of failing timing chains. I was getting an oil change for my B6 a while ago and asked the service advisor how much they charge for a timing chain replacement for a B8 A4 and on top of his head he said $1,500. Might be a rough number, but that's something I'd have to calculate in my budget.

Is it worth it? Let's say I get it, get the timing chain & tensioner replaced, should be good to go, right? I know the turbo might fail at some point and while it's not cheap to replace it, it's not as bad as the damage caused by a failing timing chain. The guy is asking $8,999 OBO so even if I end up replacing the timing chain out of my own pocket it'll still be within the budget that I have.

It's funny though, I've test driven a couple of A6s, negotiated on some A5s but I feel like I keep coming back to the A4.

    Hi;

    Longtime lurker, new member here.

I see a lot of threads relating to B8 issues but not many concerning B8.5s. Did the oil consumption, timing chain, tensioner guide, etc. issues affect the B8.5s as well, or were those problems fixed in the updates?

I have a 2015 A4 Quattro, purchased CPO with 9k miles. I'm not at 25k. Any issues I should look forward to as the car ages out of Audicare?

I'd like to do preventive maintenance and also keep a emergency $$ supply for big-ticket items, so would appreciate if you could offer any advice.

His number is roughly right for a shop to do that preemptively. "Is it worth it" only you can really answer based on your financial situation and desires. If it's the perfect car, and the timing tensioner has been done (or you do it immediately), then its fine. I haven't heard much about turbo failure with these aside from the shitty batch that went into some '09s. Bear in mind that if it's automatic the 2010s have the 6 speed auto; 2011 was the switch to the ZF8 which was a massive improvement. If it's manual there was no change. And I'd highly, highly advocate for the sports package.

You should be fine, these issues were essentially gone with the B8.5. There is probably a recall out for it right now though; secondary water pump programming.

A 2015 should be a very solid. Just regular maintenance per the mfg schedule should be fine. If you want to increase OCIs that something to consider depending how long you want to keep the car. The original warranty goes up to 4yrs or 50k miles so you should have a bit of time before youre out of warranty. (Not sure if your CPO added anything to this).

As for Audicare - I dont know how it works with your CPO but when you get Audicare when the car is new it covers up to 45k service including two brake fluid changes.

AL -I like this one (Silver Avant):

I always note the area the seller lives in. Carmel Valley is a nice area. Inevitably anytime an Audi is from an area like Spring Valley the vehicle is salvaged. Guaranteed every time.

Thanks for posting the link! If it was black and not an avant it wouldíve been a prime candidate. Totally agree about the area where the seller lives. The A4 I mentioned in my last post didnít work out, it had some electrical issues and the sellerís asking price was too high compared to the carís KBB value and the repairs it wouldíve needed. The guy wouldnít really negotiate so I moved on.

But yesterday after months of searching I finally found a car I was happy with and pulled the trigger on an extremely nice 2009 S-line 3.2 quattro A5. The previous owner had it since 2009, the maintenance history folder is thick like a phone book and sure enough the guy lives in a wealthy neighborhood, lol. Iím super happy with the car, it looks and feels amazing and Iím almost surprised I was able to find an S-line for the price I paid. Huge upgrade from my old B6 A4. My wife and I donít have kids (yet) so I figured if Iím ever going to own a 2-door coupe now is the time.

So I wonít be a member of the B8 A4 forum but wanted to say thanks for all the help and guidance Iíve found here. Especially Project Quattro, youíre the man. Without the help of this forum I probably wouldíve spent my money on a cheap B8 A4 and suffered first from oil consumption before having a failing timing chain. Definitely avoided a lot of possible issues with the research I did and this forum is a great resource for information.

Hello everyone! Thanks in advance for this nice thread.

In the market for a used A4. Looking at 2014 and newer models with a budget of $25k (that is including financing). Plenty of options out there for that price (former 2015 MY rentals with 30k-50k miles are abundant). I would love to have some "fancy" features like park assist but I think I'm only seeing that on 2016 models - was there an option for 2015 model year? Is there any reason I should avoid earlier model years (2014?) other than simply having more miles/no remaining factory warranty? I have not had any luck finding CPO at my local dealers (DFW), they seem to only carry FWD models at the moment. I would love to buy in the next 60 days.

Here's the "ideal" config I'm looking for, maybe it will help with answers: nav package, sport seats, black optics, dark grey paint, standard silver interior accents, black leather, sport steering wheel with paddle shifters (not must have).

I'm sure there's a lot of things I don't know that I don't know. Feel free to bring them to my attention!

    Thanks again.

Found a 2014 A4 Premium Plus with 58,659 miles, basically all the options: sport package, tech package, navigation, black optics. Price is 22,998. Maybe a little high for that many miles?

That's pretty close to what I paid back in August for nearly the same car. I picked up pretty much the exact car you described as your ideal car, minus the black optics. I was also looking for the B&O stereo, and wanted to find a Prestige but those were like hen's teeth in my price range.

I've kept my eye on prices after my purchase and deal still looks decent as most of the other cars with similar miles/year/price don't have all the options. That said, it's been a couple of months, and Seattle is known for a lot of things. Cheap isn't one of them so prices in my area may be a little higher than DFW.

Hi, I'm in the market for an A4 saloon, and I have looked at this --> https://www.autoscout24.com/offers/a...4a22?cldtidx=2 The owner told me it burns 1 litre of oil in 2000km / 2500km and that the piston rings have never been replaced. Whats your opinion?
