I'm about to pull the trigger on a new set of KW V3. They are the b8 Avant specific ones with stiffer rear springs. Has anyone run these in their Allroad? I'm going to track mine as well, hence the V3. I guess air is an option, but I'm not sold on it yet and I don't care about stancing it out.

It might not matter to you but KW will not honor any warranty since they don't offer anything that is designed for the Allroad.
If you don't care about stancing it out and don't need adjust the height on the fly, then just go with the V3s.

I just put in the AST 5100 Series in mine about 3 weeks ago. Similar setup to the V3. They are seriously incredible. Never had a setup that rode so nice around town yet could be so aggressive and stable when needed. The rebound adjustment knobs are in awesome locations as well, easy to adjust.

Atlantis and Force are the same mold. The 1600 is the L size, 1800 is XL. If you're looking to color-match, i think you should go for the Sonic L. Great box for allroad's and takes paint/vinyl perfectly. It's been replaced by the Motion but is still available in most stores. Looks better on b8's than the Force IMO, as the Force/Atlantis shape is at least a decade old.

Regarding hatch clearance, you'll be totally fine with any Thule box that is XL or under... without altering the height of the hatch opening.

    Hope that helps!

And just in case you want to see what a Motion XT looks like on our cars...

I always have issues with my Force XL on my AR with S45 whispbars. I can get it set just right, but eventually shifts back while driving, no matter how tight I set the knobs. It also ends up hitting the shark fin after it moves/bounces. Any tips? Currently I have some modified mightymount adapters underneath the rear clamps to get a little more vertical clearance.

Super annoying setting the limit on the hatch opening as I bump my head EVERY single time getting the stroller in/out.

Or the Inno Shadow 16, that's what I have. Gloss black cover(comes in silver too), perfect length, slimmer profile and no issues with the rear hatch. Opens from both sides, easy to use mounting/latch system. It's mounted on Thule Aeroblade edge crossbars. It's super lightweight, you can take it on and off by yourself.

Super weird, never heard of the boxes shifting back at all before. I'm willing to be it's the adapters you have under it that are not allowing the clamps to function properly, despite still being tight. The force of them clamping on pulls the box down and stops it from shifting.

Your best bet is to ditch the Whispbars for the AeroBlade Edge (not just trying to upsell haha). While the Whispbars sit lowest, they for sure cause issues with hatch clearance, antenna clearance, and sunroof functio.

I love my whispbars, but came to this conclusion as well. Although I have a force Xl i have been rocking the flow, which is great with the whispbars. just sucks when washing the car, cause there is no clearance to get anything but air under it.

19x8.5" et43 S4 rotors and peelers go for about $1k for a set in good shape. You'd definitely want spacers, probably 10 or 12mm.

19x9" et33 S5 rotors and peelers go for a little bit more because they're more desirable and a little harder to find. I sold my S5 peelers for $1300 a couple months back. 8-10mm spacers fit well on an allroad.

Picked up some vinyl on eBay to wrap my rear reflectors. Did a test fit because they have to be unscrewed from the back. I'd say the color is pretty much spot on.

Here's a link for anyone interested.

    Allroad Fog Surround Vent DIY

I tried to post this in the DIY Forum, but I don't have enough cool points for access. If someone else has access and put it there, that will work. I've got an extra OEM fog surround, which I use as a demonstration piece. Here's a before and after shot and what you're working toward.

First thing you've got to do is pull those Fog Surrounds out of the Bumper. The easiest way I've found is to grab the fins and pull from the center of the car toward the outside edge (toward the fog light). The plastic bumper has a lot of flex to it, so you'll see it flex a bit as you pull. You're attempting to pull the two tabs from the leading edge out of the bumper. If you're still getting stuck. There are two tabs on the top and two on the bottom of the surround. You may need to push down on the fin to get these to release.

Once you've got them out, look at the back of the surround at the plastic in between the fins. You'll notice a slight lip where the Fin meets the "inside" of the plastic. You're going to cut out this inside. I've highlighted (poorly) where the little lip is. The lip is where you'll be aiming your cutting tool.

For the cutting, I just used my old dremel with a THIN cutting disc. I found that low speed setting was easier as it did not melt the plastic as much. Ensure you put on some eye protection this point to guard against melted plastic projectiles.

Your goal here is to cut at an angle from the backside of the surround. Your going to start from the bottom edge of the fin. You may have to switch from cutting from the back to the front of the surround to dodge the tabs, just be careful when you're working from the front and VISIBLE side of your surround.

You just continue cutting away the three areas between the fins.

NOTE: It's better to "cut wide" and the sand and smooth the rough edges, instead of cutting into the FIN itself.

Next step is to switch out your cutting disc for a sanding wheel on your dremel. With the sanding wheel, you are going to knock down on large pieces your missed and smooth the fin. Be careful as the wheel can easily gouge out a chunk of the plastic. Once again, slow speed on the dremel is better to prevent melting and goo-ifying. Try to keep the same angle as you cut to also prevent skating onto the outer part of the fin.

You may not be able to get exactly into all the corners of the fins, as you can see in the picture below. I just rounded these portions off. You can't see these at all once its on the car. so don't worry about it. Just cut them as close as you can and then round and smooth with your sand paper or sanding wheel.

Next step is to to take some sandpaper and smooth everything out. Note that the surround has a gloss finish, anything you sand will remove that gloss, so keep your sand paper on the parts you've actually altered. Once again, this isn't noticeable, once its on the car.

REPEAT PROCESS ON THE OTHER SURROUND.

Now to put your vented surround back in. Insert the Fog Light Hole side first. There are two log tabs there you'll want to put in first. Then just start applying pressure until you hear/feel all the tabs click into place. Remember, there's two at the top and two at the bottom. Give it a light tug to ensure you've got them seated correctly.

Hope this helps. If you've got any questions, send me a PM.

    Items for Sale

From time to time, I get PMs and emails from people looking for an allroad to buy (which I don't mind at all, I'm always window shopping for cars myself). So when I see a good allroad pop up for sale, I'll post them here. For example:

2013 Audi Allroad Premium Plus LOADED - $25200

One owner. Garage kept. This is the most finely appointed used Allroad you will find. 18 months of Audi Factory warranty remaining (100k miles bumper to bumper). All service performed at Fletcher Jones (45k just done 5/2/2017).

For my enthusiast audience, you will probably know about the towing capabilities of the "European" version. I've gone thru the hassle for you to equip this Allroad with the full OEM towing retrofit. The mechanical installation was very straightforward, but the software config is the hard part. Thankfully I convinced the Sr Software Tech at Fletcher Jones to spend 4 hours carefully re-configuring the factory settings in order to handle towing signals, etc without throwing error codes. This rig can tow 2,000 lbs and easily haul around your bikes or light trailer!

Serious inquiries only please. I'm a very conflicted seller--getting married and lost battle to keep two cars. Thanks for looking!
