I have done both. First I made a little more than 300hp on the 1.8T and then I changed the engine to V8 4.2.

The V8 engine is SO much better and more fun than the small 1.8T, trust me!!

I sold my car 1 year ago with the 1.8T engine but I still have the V8-package for sale. It has done 42.000 km.

Where were you a year ago when my engine blew! It probably would have cost less to buy your setup instead of having my engine replaced. GRR.

the W8 Passat was in a B5 frame, not the B6. sure anything is possible...but going from frame to frame can be problematic. speaking of which...that motor was problematic enough and can be a little tough to get parts for in the aftermarket (and with new 2008 OEM parts pricing....things could get steep fast). Id rather have the 4.2l regardless...a higher output motor, better HP/TQ curves...and a known direct swap based on not only above...but the fact that the OE S4 shares the b6/7 frame.

W8 motor wasn't problematic.... actually less problematic than the 1.8T. problem was that when something did go wrong, the motor had to come out to fix it (tighter fit than even a 2.7T in a B5 S4), and repair bills reflected that.

now though, VW dealers can't get engine parts for them, and if you do have an issue, VWoA would buy your car back and try to put you into a new passat 3.6 4mo.

We did it in about a week the first time. Second time we did it in 3 days.

i got the engine from martin and i have it running already. so much fun to drive
