What kind of HID headlights are you guys running?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I posted in the tech forums yesterday but have yet to get a response so ill post in here. My DDM HID headlights have been giving me problems setting off my ABS, traction control, and e-brake light every time i turn the lights on. Ive read that its because of the poor quality ballasts DDM uses. Im going to return these lights but i was curious which HID system you guys are running that cooperates with our ABS module. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

You could try to relocate the ballast on the driver side or add in a ground... I rarely had that problem but it worked itself out by restarting the car.

just move the driver side ground wire direct to the chassis and you'll be fine, see this link

I purchased a morimoto 5five 5000k on Tuesday from the retrofit source but one of the ballasts is bad. To my luck, they happen to be closed tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. Kinda sucks when I could just drive by their office for the exchange, hopefully there's no ifs or buts for replacing the dead ballast.

Morimotos 35w 6000k. They fit snugly under the headlights. Didn't even need to drill a hole from the back if the headlight cap, ran the wires through the bottom. Sealed them up with a plexiglass card and silicone. The left side ballast occasionally made my dash light up like a Christmas tree so all I did was ground it separately to the chassis and now I'm golden. Running fine for 4+ months.

I'm using Morimoto XB35 with cheap ebay ballasts and I'm lovin it... I have the same Christmas tree situation on occasion when I turn them on, all the lights come on. So you have to take the ground from the Ballast thats causing it and put it to the chassis instead? For me it's the drivers side as well. Also in the past the fog lights were rewired and I have a warning every time I turn the car on that the front right fog light is out but it's not. Is there a fix for that?

Got mine on Amazon. Kensun 6k. Twice in a year one headlight didn't light but a cycle of the switch fixed it. I fit the whole thing inside then headlight. Payed less then 50 I think and I am happy with them. Next time I would get a lower color temp maybe 5k. I would buy them again.
No lights on dash ever except when one for the headlights didn't light.

I'm not that dumb i know that, but I've been having issues getting to their website and was pretty much asking if anyone else had this issue. i've tried logging in from work and from home so i figured their server was down and couldn't get in touch with anyone there. but as of 30 minutes to an hour ago i can now access their site. Anyway, lets not get sidetracked since OP wanted to know who runs what HID Kit.

^^ Oh my bad. I realise it sounded stupid, I probably should have realised that.

In any event, TRS Morimoto Three5 bulbs are excellent. Have a set in my b7 and the output is worlds better than the 5 y/o bulbs that were in the car. Probably not as good as the Osram CBI bulbs but for less than 50% the cost I'm ok with that...

Im running OEM Valeo ballasts, DDM 5000k D1S bulbs, Ecode housings and TRS TSX-R projector lenses.

they still need to be aimed properly.

EDIT: I've been running a 35watt ddm kit in my wifes car for at least 2 years now without any problems...including a front pass collision back in May of this year...everything survived.

Those DEPO lamp projectors still ghost a bit above cut-off..but not bad for a pair of $190 headlamps. Those are 6000K bulbs too...the camera didnt pick up the blue light these put off that great. I want to switch them to the same as mine, 5k.

So i finally got around to adding a ground wire from the harness to the power steering reservoir and i even relocated the ballast to underneath the headlight. Im still having the problem with getting a christmas tree every time i turn the lights on. any other suggestions im about to throw these things in the garbage.

I've been running the morimoto mini h1 bi-xenon since may and the last couple months my passenger said a bulb is randomly not turning on and i am getting the dipped headlight error message. If I turn them off and on a few times it will fire up.
Is this a wiring issue or a failing bulb or ballast?

It's likely the ballast is going bad.

    This.

My b7 has a very random and intermittent dipped bulb warning. The bulb failed and I replaced it (got super red/pink for two days then blew out) but the error still occurs. Leveling works 100% so it's definitely the ballast unfortunately.

8000k HID 35W Conversion on Low and Fog. Just Bought Blacked Out Euro E-codes and only running 8k up top at the minute. Because of the new "T10 mini city light", I might bring it all back to stock or at least 5000k due to the different colors I now have.

This is what I ran before, I know people say it kills people on the road, but with this cheaper 35W kit in So-Cal, you actually see it, sometimes worse, all the time...
