Ice chunk behind back wheel + speed bump = busted bumper cover

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Heads up people is snowy places. I had some snow/ice build up behind my back wheels during a snow storm. It froze hard over night. Next day, went slowly over a speed bump. Ice chunker hit the speed bump and snapped a piece of the rear bumper cover off as it came off. Not a big piece, other people probably won't notice, but I see it.

So FYI, 2 seconds of snow removal could save you $1000.

Damn! Thanks for the heads up.

Would insurance cover this or would they associate negligence or laziness to this case?

Sorry to hear about htat, Joe. I had this same problem on my S4 - and friends from the B5 world warned me about it when I moved to Colorado. Not an RS 5 specific problem, but certainly amplified by the lower clearance.

I make a habit of kicking out any wheel well snow buildup when I park the car, before it turns to concrete and becomes a problem.

Din, your post sorta addresses it, I didn't expect that things would snap off. Also, I didn't find the piece that came off, so repair basically means a new rear bumper cover... with paint matching and all that, not a cheap fix. Like I said before, it is minor, and most people won't notice it, so I'll prolly wait to replace the bumper cover.

Or at least, thats was way I feel now after holiday spending. If I behave for a while, I might just replace the bumper cover.

Wait at the least until spring. You would be the one snapping if you had your bumper replaced only to have some careless fool rear end you because of icy roads. If there was some sort of cover there, like a reverse mudflap, it might prevent the issue from repeating. :/
