I am getting ready to pull the trigger on APR SC for my 2010 S5 tip coupe.I would appreciate any advice from those who have gone down this road with any of the kits.Do you have any regrets or would you have done it differently? I like to track my car,I do car shows and I use it as my touring car,it is not my daily driver. Please share any ideas about how adding the SC would affect good or bad the performance.

Screw that. Waste of time and money. Just get the new FL S5 with SC standard! Not to mention DSG trans! Huge difference over the crappy tiptronic. Add the APR tune and pulley and you are golden!

I can vouch for the Supercharged 3.0... I love it when the boost kicks in hard after a second under full throttle. Intoxicating.

make this investment... IMO. you can probably trade your 2010 in for a new 2013 for less than 15k that it costs for the SC.

crappy tiptronic? really? have you even ever driven the s5 with the tip? it's one of the quickest shifting, smoothest autos out there. not sure what makes it so 'crappy'?

op wasn't asking for your opinion on the 3.0t. if you didn't see, his thread was addressed at the people who supercharged their v8 s5s. the topic of 3.0t vs 4.2 sc has been discussed to death on this forum and another debate is unnecessary.

The 3.0 S4 or S5 are just slow compared to the S5 V8. That's why I switch my 2012 S4 3.0 SC to a 2012 S5 4.2 V8. The 3.0 sputter at high speeds while the powerful V8 just pulls hard even above 150MPH with no problem. Slap a supercharger on the V8 and the 3.0 S4 or S5 don't hold a candle to a supercharged S5. The DSG can be a joke sometimes, because it shifts at lower RPM and then you have less power, while the Tip shifts near or at 7,000 rpm. I love it when the V8 hits 7000 RPM and it purrs.

Ummm.... don't know what S4 you have driven. The fastest I have seen 0-60 is 4.08 seconds on my G-tech with just APR Stage I tune. That's only a hair behind the current CTS-V.

As for your claim that the 3.0 sputters at high speeds of 150mph... here is my S4 reaching 160 the last time I passed through Mexico!

We are just trying to help. But hey... your car, your money! Enjoy every bit of that $12,000 aftermarket add-on, because once you are ready to trade up you will get $0 from the dealer. It actually may even hurt the value, especially at an Audi dealer. They want clean unmolested cars on the lot. They can't factory certify anything with an aftermarket SC on it...

Calm down . Tip vs new dbl clutch tranny is NO comparison. Yes I've driven them both many times. V8 sound is intoxicating but transmission combined with weight...I wouldnt spend the time/money on SC V8.

Ok then explain to me exactly how the double clutch is so much superior to the tip that makes it 'NO comparison'. And the supercharger weighs what..70 lbs. That on top of a two ton car..negligible. The s5 isn't a car built for purposes where that kind of weight matters.

do you race s4/s5's for a living or did you read about this in one of the car magazines :D? on a drive around town, or even on a spirited drive, i doubt your average person would notice much of a difference between the two transmissions.

Very spirited many times. You are right, your average person would probably prefer the Tip as shifts are softer and mushier(some say less annoying). This thread is about a guy wanting to supercharge an engine....not really your average person. All I'm saying is that if you want to make a car go fast why not start with the fastest/lightest equipment?.

I would say it is superior if you want to go fast......dbl clutch shifts in a fraction of t he time that the tip does. 70 more pounds up high in the bow IS negligible but if op is spending $11,000 why not start with a lighter better balanced package? Maybe he should just get an RS5? Nothing like V8 rumble.

absolutely agreed for a multitude of reasons. regardless, op is asking for opinions, good or bad, from people who have put a s/c on their 4.2 s5. i don't think buying a new car factors into that initial question.

op would be better off posing this question on a5oc. several active members with sc 4.2's on that forum.

satchmo, who posted on this thread has a s/c tip s5. wonder why he didn't provide more input.

We installed a RS4 and a S5 APR Stage 3 supercharger kit and both customers were extremely happy with the performance, reliability, and driveability. The car can still be driven daily and it can be tracked as well. The power increase is significant. It's almost as if the car now had a V12 in it because the power is so linear.

Because he has no credibility due to the fact that he never posted time slips. :D

almosts50 from a5oc has been beating on his s/c manual this entire track season. iirc he threw the serp belt early on, but all has been well since then. and that guy logs a hell of a lot of miles on his car as a dd to boot. send him a pm for more detailed info. he is a really helpful and all around nice guy.

Then no, don't get the supercharger, it adds too much weight to the front. Handling suffers. Power is useless without control. I know at least one person that did that to an S5 he liked to track, and sold it within months because of the weight balance issue.

Honestly, the DSG vs. Tiptronic is pretty dramatic for anyone with the slightest enthusiasm for performance cars. That being said, tiptronic gets a bad reputation but it really is not all that bad in its modern form. In manual mode, shifts are pretty quick and relatively crisp. However, DSG has even quicker shifts and less drivetrain loss. Therfore, DSG>Tiptronic.
