Anyone else hear the weird rubbing noise?
Whenever I turn my steering wheel either far right or left, as I reach the end of the turning radius (for example when I park or I'm coming out of a parking spot) I hear a weird rubbing noise. Like a rubber on rubber noise. I just had my upper control arms replaced on both sides cuz they were shot. I thought this was the root of the noise but it's still there. My power steering fluid is filled properly. Anyone else experience this rubbing noise? What the hell could it be?

I hear it on both of my A4s but they both have over 115k miles. I'm thinking they both need all new control arms up front.

I took my car to get checked out for the same type of noise you're describing. Dealership said it was my tires.

Interesting... I'll have to look up there but I only hear the noise for the first couple turns. After everything is all warmed up, the noise is gone.

yes. it makes people think my car is going to fall apart and that I don't take care of it, which sucks. but yeah, I have no idea. I don't know what is hitting what. And Draklore - pic is worthless without explanation.

Yea that rub mark is from a totally different wheel size, and height prob. The pic though is basically behind the tire, that rubber boot is the steering link.

Sorry guys, yeah that pic is the inner wheel arch.
I had a rubbing noise as well during slow or extreme turning in parking situations. Pulled the tire of and noticed the tub spot.
I can't remember if it was a wheel size or low factor though that caused it.

Rodmar, the noise wasn't due to my control arms as I still hear the noise now after having had them replaced. The clunking noise you are referring to could just be the front wheels fighting the rear wheels as you turn since we have all wheel drive. I usually hear a very low clunking noise when doing a u-turn. Like gears that are engaged and spinning.

Changed the sway bar end links in on my B6 and no more rubbing noise. Problem solved for me.

Best thing to do is get the front end on stands, start the car and have somebody turn the wheel and look/listen for the noise. I was surprise to find that the little bushings on the sway bar end links made such a loud rubber binding noise.
