Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's approaching Timing Belt service on the car now. (Audi A4 2.0T 2006 220Hk, BUL)
What do you recommend you should change except for these parts:
*06F198119A - Timing Belt, Timing Belt Roller, Timing Belt Roller, Timing Belt Tensioner, and some bolts.
    *06D903137E - Accessory Drive Belt.
*06B903341B - Accessory Drive Belt Roller.
*06B903133E - Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner.
    *06F121011 X - Water Pump.

    Should you change something more?

Cam and crank seals. Might as well replace them while you're in there.

OP, you could change the camshaft seal, but leave the crankshaft seal alone if it's not leaking. It's such a big PITA to put it back properly.
If you change any of the seals have in mind you need special tools to remove pulleys. If they're not leaking I would strongly suggest to leave them alone.

I'm surprised you don't have the thermostat on that list, it's a must.
    Good luck!

Hmm... I didn't know that myself. I used an ECS Tuning kit the first time around and I'm pretty sure I missed that. I will be sure to do it the next service.

Well, let me put it that way, it's not really a must but it is if that make sense haha
Imagine your T-stat is fine when you do your timing belt so you don't change it and then it fails after 10k miles. It makes sense to replace it while you're at it, it's only a $50-60 part.

Totally agree...you're 90% of the way to the thermostat while your doing this...just need to move the alternator out of the way which is cake.

But to rip everything apart just to do the thermostat is a lot of work. You'd be kicking yourself the whole time.

if a shop is doing it add the ferrera lifter shims, the camshafts' bolts, valve cover gasket, and chain tensioner. (everything else is apart, might as well, no?)

I went with Europa and it was perfect for the job. The only thing that would have be nice would be replacement clamps and bolts. I highly suggest that you replace your clamps on your thermostat as mubea clamps are one time use, at least they are supposed to be. I had leak issues till the heat from the engine eventually sealed the hoses back up to the thermostat. Also check to see if your DV is up to date, if it isn't you should replace it then. makes the jobs super easy.

    Good Luck

You shouldn't be removing any of the top end to do a timing belt change.

Surprisingly didn't see this posted yet, but a good bolt out kit is handy to have around as well. 4 of the 6 crankshaft pulley bolts stripped out on me during my TB job. Bolt out kit removed them all. Got my kit from Blauparts as well, very nice kit with instructions but nothing more detailed than what Phil posted in his DIY. Thanks again Phil, You Rock!

Phil any reason why you'd get the Europaparts kit over the blauparts one?

Because when I did my timing belt (by the way time to do it again soon), this was the only kit that was including the 6 camshaft bolts and the reminder sticker.
Yes, you can call me anal :)

Ok thanks for all the great feedback.
I will add the Thermostat and the Crankshaft Seal to my list.
I will leave the car at the garage where i work,
and will also buy all the oem spareparts there.
Because i work as a Audi/VW certified spareparts dude or what you call it.

i am sorry but when do we change the timing belt? the owner i bought the car from i said i dont have to since it is made for the lifetime of the car. I got b7 2006 with 60k miles. i think the seller lied to me.

These belts are most definitely NOT lifetime parts. Audi service interval is 110k IIRC. The general consensus is to change them earlier than that. You're still fine at 60k, but you will probably want to change it in 20-30k miles. The seller either lied to you or was just ignorant.
