so after installing my new nav HU, i find that the front speakers are considerably louder than the rear, any ideas why this is, any way to even it out....does the factory amp have a gain adjustment?

    The car = 2006 A4 non-bose
    The headunit = Sony xnv-660bt
    The harness = Enfig SRWH-AUD2

Is the A4 like the non-Bose A3, in that the front speakers are powered by the HU and the rears by the factory amp?

Maybe just use the fader on your HU to make the rears louder? ;)

yes front are run off the HU, rears and sub off factory amp. I guess the new HU is more powerful than the old OEM HU. I balanced it out using fader, will do for now. Currently looking into upgrading the front speakers as the OEM fronts are breaking up at higher volumes.

I had the same issue on my former B7 with my Pioneer AVIC D3. I always thought higher voltage preouts would solve it (I was told that by many), but according to specs, yours already has 4V preouts (my AVIC's were 2V), so I have no idea at this point.

We are working on a part for this but it's still in production.

The problem is that the factory radio puts out a much higher output than the aftermarket radios. I would guess about 10 volts.

That is one of the reasons i went with the sony b/c i thought the 4v preamps would avoid this problem, dammit!

good to see you guys have found a solution for this, I have already started looking int adding a better sub and amp, as well as better door speakers run off the headunit, this may be a much cheaper and easier fix though.

When will the enfig adapter go on sale & for how much $?

Are there any cheap alternatives for replacing the factory amp with an aftermarket one. I dont use the fader on my HU because the rear speakers do not sound as awesome as the front ones do when I balance the sound out.

I have a clarion HU and am already running a JL 12" Sub powered by an Alpine amp running @ 250 watts.

Just spoke with them on the phone and he was super helpful. They are in the process of getting these made in house. Probably another week or so before they are ready according to what I was told. He said this will really wake the system up which is what I am hoping for. As of right now my rear speakers are barely on.

The reason this occurs is because your fronts are being powered by your new h/u's internal amp.
The rears are likely to be incorrectly wired, as they use a line level output from the h/u, power, and remote on to fire up its amp.
A little modification to your harness will fix this in minutes.

I just bought one from Christian (along with a lot of other wiring stuff) for my Kenwood DDX719 that gets installed this week. Wires are supposed to be here tomorrow so by the end of the week I should be able to report back.
I hadn't seen this thread but he told me about the volume issue with rear speakers and the Hi-low should do it.

If it's correctly wired, you don't need this additional cable harness.
Check the wiring diagram on your original head unit and then track each cable in your harness to ensure it is correct and goes to the right connection of your new h/u.

In my experience, there are few harnesses available that are truly plug n play. Always check each wire

The reason it happens is because the outputs to the amp from the factory radio are much higher than most aftermarket radios.

Not only does this adapter help out low rear audio on non Bose systems it also improves the sound on Bose systems. It also takes care of speaker turn on/ Turn off pop and most engine noise.

I suspect the problem is in the "smart harness" you supply for the original install.

    That's a pretty bold statement.

You obviously know something about the Audi audio system because you understand the wiring.
But you do not have enough experience with the cars to know that this is a common problem with many A4's.

I sell the part above to many A4 owners no matter what harness they use to install.

Do a search on the forums. The problem has existed a long time before we started selling our "smart harness"
