For those who are familiar with the snub mount assembly, your assistance please.

The front rubber mount metal bracket here: http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl...9,r:1,s:0,i:79 gets bolted to another metal assembly that's bolted onto the car. It has the metal braces (2) that come from each side of the oil pan and bolt to it. This assembly on the drivers side is bolted to the car via an ~8mm allen bolt, and to the passenger side via a self aligning pointed stud and ~8mm nut around the crank pulley. It also helps secure what appears to be the ac belt tensor, so this stud is working double duty holding it and this assembly. This stud is my problem and questions are pertaining to it as it's currently my only trans, and I can't take off the entire front end of the car for inspection till I have parts to fix it as I'll be stuck home once I start to tackle it.

So, the nut is missing and the stud appears to be ~broken as it just spins. Whether it's stripped, or snapped off in the ~block has yet to be determined either way has to be replaced. So,

- Is this stud an actual bolt coming from the back side? If so, is it accessible?
- If a stud (and as I'm not going to find one of those) any idea of thread and pitch to run a bolt......or will the threads be backwards due to it being a stud?

If I remember correctly, its just threaded into the bolt. I removed mine, when I was cleaning up my motor, and have no use for it since Im running a fmic and no snub mount. Honestly dont remember the thread pitch, but its not a reverse thread into the block.

In the upper right is a groove (this actually sits with the groove pointing down), in this groove that stud comes through and you lock down an ~8mm nut. Anyone have other ideas about the studs replacement or if a bolt can just be run into it (and by it, I believe is the block itself)?

You can see this bolt laying there by the notch, that is the one I need.

Why the hell are you not running a snub mount? Do you like drivetrain slop?

I thought this would be a simple answer, but ETKA gives only mystery for this particular bolt. I found some photos that may help:





The first photo is during a build and the front plate is not installed. ETKA lists the front plate and says to "also use" the following parts:
8D0 199 228 B
N 010 241 18
N 011 008 30
N 900 577 03

The first item I cannot find any information on. That could be our mystery stud. The next 3 parts are a bolt, a nut, and a washer. I believe the nut and washer are probably for the stud. The part number for the bolt probably refers to the bolts on the upper left side that hold it to the block. As shown here in the larger yellow box:

If you need that bolt/stud, Ill try to find mine and send it to you. As for no snub mount, its been gone for over a year now, and I honestly dont notice any difference without it.

Really? Wow, I would think it would be horrible slop. Mine is almost deteriorated and it is very noticeable.

The snub is pretty much just there as a pivot point, if the motor/trans mounts are stiff there isn't going to be much movement side/side or up/down just a twisting motion.

I used to run without a snub with my solid mounts, but then put one back on.

With a 4cyl, I honestly dont think there is that much movement. I mean look at the majority of the V8 muscle cars out there making huge amounts of power, and they dont even have front mounts from factory. Thats just how I see it though. As long as your side motor mounts and trans mounts are good, I dont see too much fuss about it.

If any one has that bolt I'm Paypal ready! That's something that can't be replaced at the local hardware store and mine appears snapped in half.

It is all just M8x1.25 equipment. You could definitely make something happen with stuff from the store if you wanted. Probably not quite as easy as using the stock stuff, because you'd have to come up with the right spacer thickness and such.

Well then, $5 with ~10 variations of M8x1.25 studs and bolts from Ace Hardware will work, return the rest afterwards. Thanks for the mm & pitch, with out it it's a fogetaboutit hassle, as it's a large guessing game.
