    Ressurection of An Allroad

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A few weeks back i picked up an Allroad with a tiptronic transmission that has failed to Transmiss. Yesterday got around to removing the offending parts..

Decided to pull the entire engine/transmission and address some oil leaks, clean it up and change the turbos..

But wait recently I received this from Europe...

WTF Damned Europeans put the steering wheel on the WRONG side of the car.. This is going to take some work to address.

    This has me thinking..

It would fit well in that Allroad juiced to 250 hp and 500 ft/lbs.. Plus 35mpg???? Decisions decisions...

That's the one thing I really don't like about my allroad. It's the MPG. If it had a TDI in there instead it would be the perfect vehicle for me. I say for the swap.

I wish my all road had a diesel! It would make the best DD ever. Save the crazy 3L single turbo for a S4 sedan.

$500obo you come and get it.. I can ship but there will be freight and crating charges. It will be a front cut at the A pillars and just in front of the front seats.

It will include all the body wiring except the engine harness, and the RHD A/C lines as well as dash/steering wheel and both front door panels.

The dual range gearbox is an 01E with an additional 2 speed gearbox bolted to the back of it. One ratio is 1:1 and the low range is 2.35:1 or something close to that. It was a pretty rare option available only in Europe.

How is that dual range shifted? Does it have it's own shifter similar to many off road rigs or is it electronically switched? It's very intriguing as I've never heard of this before on an Audi.

There is an additional sensor on the gearbox that detects the speed of the second gear and there is an electrical solenoid on the rear of the transmission that is activate (under 15mph IIRC). A button on the shift knobs signals activation of the low range solenoid. There is an extra module that controls this function.

I'll snap up pics when we get the gearbox back together.

I'd a pretty complex system, I've got the transmission, the switch, the diagrams and the module but putting it all together has been very time consuming. I'm working on bringing a dual range car over from Europe so I can reverse engineer the system.

Sorry guys, not much on updates, pulled the car out of the shop and in it's place is an A6 getting the same treatment. I'm hoping to find a BAU or AKE engine for the Allroad (180hp) I'm saving the AKN and AFB engines I have for customers or A4 conversions. I've got one AKE in stock and that will be going in the A6. There is enough difference in the Allroad AKE that I'm looking at a few Allroads in Europe to bring over.

So plans are right now to take an AKE engine put a turbo and injectors with some tuning to get about 300hp.. and 500 ft/lbs ft/lbs of torque, basically the same output as a very strong Stage III (or 605 kit) on the 2.7t with 35mpg combined.

if you get to 35mpg let me know how so I can get that in my engine ? I have never seen better than 9.0 l/100 combine on 2.5 TDI that is about 26-27 mpg

I plan on lowering the revs with different gearing as well as having the tune optimized. 35 might be a pipe dream but over 30mpg will be a sure thing.
