Sounds a little loud for factory exhaust? Know how to remove wind noise?

A friend of mine who has a B6 S4 always says my exhaust sounds loud...and awesome. I just attributed it to the difference between the B6 and B7 even though there isn't much difference.

I ordered a full replacement from Fast Intentions and decided to do some before and after sound clips and G-tech reads.

Now that I'm listening to the exhaust it does sound pretty awesome already and I'm just wondering if this sound like factory to everyone or if maybe the previous owner did piggies or something. When I look at the mufflers, they have the Audi rings so I guess at least that much is Audi.

I can get longer clips if needed.

The other question, if anyone knows Audacity, is how to remove the windy background noise. I've already wrapped my mic with extra foam and mounted it to the rear bumper. There is just a lot of wind and/or road noise. I'm sure there is a way to remove it, I just don't know how.

    Thanks!

It doesn't sound factory to me either but I wouldn't know what factory sounds like and of course it doesn't sound like that when you stand next to a street and I drive by. It's much more tame sounding then. This is a mic mounted 2.5' from the exhaust tips.

Now I just wish I knew what was done to make it sound that way. Like I said, the mufflers are definitely Audi. I'll be taking the whole system (from the headers back) off soon enough when my Fast Intentions setup arrives so maybe I'll be able to see what the previous owner did.

That or maybe I should set the mic on the street and do some drive-bys to see if it sounds more normal that way.

maybe piggies and resonator delete were done on the stock exhaust system? But that is NOT the stock sound of this car

I put on my Fast Intentions downpipes and catback so I figured I would post an update to you can hear the difference in sound.

I looked at the exhaust and I had my buddy who owns a custom muffler shop look at it and he said it looks stock. Nothing was even gutted. So that first clip is just how badass this car sounded stock...at least when the mic was mounted 2.5' from the tips.

This Fast Intentions exhaust is just ridiculously awesome. Wish I had purchased this sooner.

That stock video was stock. Stand 1' from the exhaust and do a pull, it will be loud-ish

    Love that FI sound!

What size resonators are you running? Is that with the stock main cats? Just curious, since I have catless downpipes, aftermarket main cats and the FI system with 14" resonators.

Your MP3 has me rummaging thru a box for a proper mic to record my own pull.

Running 12" resonators. The downpipes do have cats...and pre-cats. Its their standard "B7 S4 Manual Transmission Down Pipes" and "B7 S4 Cat Back Exhaust System" as listed on their site. Although I did go with the 2.5" version. I slanted the tips instead of making them level. I actually kind of like it. What do you guys think?

Now I just need the JH tune!

Zoso7, definitely, get some audio clips! I just used a cheap (relatively) old handheld audio recorder. The kind we used to take notes on before smartphones took over the world. I did, however, buy a decent mic. This one:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...CM_Stereo.html

Then I went to a hobby store and bought a 1sqft piece of foam for like $3. Zip tied the foam around the mic just to try to reduce some of the wind and road noise and focus on recording the exhaust note. Used blue 3M painters tape to "mount" the mic square on the bumper, threw the recorder in the trunk and drove around.

Probably looked pretty dumb to anyone driving behind me but I don't care. Besides, they were WAY behind me pretty quick.
