opinion on clutch replacement (would go with vast)
I am just debating here and looking for opinions, since Vast is having a sale and I will be getting unitronic stage 1+ at waterfest on saturday. Car has 85k miles on it, stock clutch, no signs of slipping. currently completely stock power wise. do not track the car, or launch the car at all...nor will i. i drive agressively, but thats about it. From the research i have done, people have ran stock clutches on stage 2+ cars without an issue. however, after the consistent breaking of my b6...im a little paranoid and looking to do everything once, and correct the first time with my b7. Do you guys think it would be wise of me to purchase a clutch kit now while Vast is having a sale? Or will the stock clutch with 85k be sufficient for stage 1+? i dont plan on going further than 1+ anytime soon. MAYBE doing a KOR from RAI in the next year or two, but thats a big maybe. Financially, i can afford the clutch right now...but it would also be wise of me to save the money if i could, having just paid for waterfest, h2oi, and a unitronic tune all within a couple weeks. So what do you guys think? Also, from the research ive done, Vast stage 1 should be sufficient for a KOR right? i read a post where someone said it was good up to 450 TQ at the crank. thanks!

First of all, save your money. Vast will have a sale again ( I got current sale price around Christmas last year). Second of all, yes, you will probably need a clutch eventually, but why waste the money now when it could be anywhere from 10-60k miles til you need it? I replaced my clutch at like 116k. Chrislane I think is at like 167k stock clutch. Vast is a great clutch, but I would say bump it up a stage or two. I would rather have more clutch than not quite enough, you know? The stage 3 is awesome. Do it right, do it once.

I have been stage 1 on a stock clutch since 20k miles and I am at 170k and still going strong with a couple times of slipping that quickly went away.

How did I know chrislane would be in here? Lol.
I too had slipping on my clutch, only in higher gears under wot from low rpms. Baby the car for a week, and the slipping goes away for a while. You got a while if you see no signs.

Hit me up when your ready to upgrade to a vast clutch. There's a ton of good threads based soley on Vast clutches.

i have heard great things about vast, but due to my poor experience with them i didn't research them properly (aka Shane didn't try to push me into it so i didn't know that they were puckless?). but i went with the FX400 and it chattered a little but after it was broken in the chattering was gone.
one thing i will say is that i have a stage 4 and its INCREDIBLY light, i would say requires less force than stock haha. the engage point is very high though haha. so i would suggest definitely going for higher than a stage 1 clutch. even if you don't mod your car, it should last longer...

There is also a nice website dedicated to Last performance and several threads too.

Better off getting JHM same idea as vasts just better and better service, southbend, or clutchmasters.

okay everyone. there is ZERO reason to start this again. every company has bad reviews. vast has more than most admittedly but JHM is pretty much up there too lol... i know the company's rep and customer service is important but i think we need to stick to comparing the performance of the companies' clutches...
what you should focus on is do you want to go with a company that has been making clutches for a long time or the new kid on the block who has great praise for their puckless style clutch, that claims no chatter.

Forgive me for being brash, it's just that Vast is a small
Company with four employees and are not site sponsored or on here to defend themselves... While other companies are able to
Post and report on here during all hours of the buisness week/day and defuse situations as they arise... So yeah a few of the NA experiences at Vast have been blown out of proportion and despite them continuing to put out products for our platform, we have people saying they are a bad company because three platforms ago they revolutionized the platform, had more exposure and notoriety and got to big to fast and a small percentage of their customer base wasn't 100% happy at the end of the day....
So yeah, tell me what makes these other companies so much better? That's all I'm saying. Let the products do the talking and the past be the past..
It's just unfortunate that I'm pretty much the only thing on these forums that can provide a Voice for Vast...

i will never again own a southbend clutch due to my bad experience(and everyone elses)...so its on to something new. as far as pricepoint goes, vast is by far the winner. there are PLENTY of great reviews about them. if i dont end up with a Vast, i will end up with a spec. clutchmasters has great reviews but they are pretty expensive compared to other brands.

thanks man. Ill see how comfortable i feel with the stock clutch after getting tuned this weekend so excited for it though. going from a stage 3 1.8t to a stock 2.0t was tough. even though the 2.0t is a MUCH better engine.

What didn't you like about the 1.8? I could name 100 reasons why I wish my 2.0T was a 1.8...Lmao

I am currently Stage 2 APR and drive my car pretty aggressive sometimes but don't do hard launches. I've had the Vast Stage 3 clutch with resurfaced flywheel for a few months and couldn't be happier. The install was not too bad and the results have been great so far. It is still comfortable to drive but grabs way better than the stock one ever did.

awe kit in mine for 1.5 years. their flywheel, and a southbend clutch kit. works awesome. takes a bit to fully break in (kevlar) but once it did, i could never get it to slip.
