    Shop to Install RNS-E into a B5 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have a shop, prefferably near the peninsula they can recomend to install an RNS-E from a b7 into my b5 S4?
    I have a CANBUS adapter, http://www.ebay.com/itm/110889420145...84.m1497.l2649.
Do I need any other kind of wiring to connect it? Also my car has the factory nav that displays in the gauge cluster, is it possible to use that antenna, or should I just get a new one?

    Thanks for any recommendations given.

it all should show in the cluster still. You need to tap into the cluster wires.

If no one knows of a local shop that can do it has anyone done it themselves? does anyone know how to do it and can offer assistance? Or tell me what else I need to make the swap?

not sure how hard it would be for a b5 but i installed a 2010 verion in my b7. i had the symphony2+ so i had the same harness. You may need to get a conversion harness and program it so that you get directions on your dis.

I found a place to do the install, but I need to find a gps antenna for the b7 RNS-E, does anyone know of one that will work and connect to the unit? I have had little luck in searching for them.

I installed a RNS-E in my B5 and while it is not impossible I doubt a regular stereo shop with some high school kids as installers would be able to do a decent enough job. It's not rocket science for sure but it all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. Also, they would need vag-com to do some changes. I don't remember exactly what it involved but I remember I needed to reprogram some things.

Does anyone who owns vag-com know how to make the changes and is willing to help me out?

Hey- I've done the install on my B5 S4, and have done all the setup. If you follow NSXJR's write up it's super easy.

I've seen the write up. I actually don't have vag-com. Sorry if that was unclear.

ummm...b5? RNS-e? get a chinese no name gps unit and be happy - all you need to install is time, patience and stereo removal keys.

^ no thanks. I already have my rns-e and the hardware to put it in. I like the OEM look, not the no name Chinese look.

I've been advocating the chinese oem look a like RNS. They are great modern units unlike oem audi panasonics that are 8 year old technology now..
its a complete oem look with colors of led etc..

Can you provide a link to an example of the Chinese RNS unit that you are referring to?

get this one, or any other listing with the *SAME* knobs and UI screens - that's the one that has best software.

The unit in the link doesn't remotely look like an RNS-E.

i wouldn't say it looks very cheap, though it's cheaper than the rns-e. if there was no rns-e, i think that unit and/or the dynavin would be a bit more popular if owners want that OEM look. it's more OEM looking than aftermarket ones such as the pioneer avic.

perhaps adding a metal strip on the bottom like the rns-e will help make it look less cheaper. a non audi owner/fan might think the cheaper unit is oem.

I am nearby in ssf near the costco. My ross cable was sent to a buddy on the east coast but have my old ebay cable that I used when I modified my 2010 rns-e to my b7. Let me know if you still need assistance. As long as you know what to code hopefully it would just take a couple minutes.

That would be awesome, I still haven't coded the unit, I will search for the write up that includes all the necessary values that need to be changed.
