    Intro and weird clutch issue

Ive been a long time lurker and finally decided to register. This site has been great and ive learned a ton and will continue to learn. I have a dolphin gray 04 A4 quattro 6sp. love the car (except for the power). All stock besides magnaflow exhaust. Right now, its all about maintenance for me. This leads me to a question regarding my clutch. i cant quite figure out what it may be.

anyway... In the morning (and evening after work) when i go out and leave to go to/from work, as i let my clutch out to take off there is a little click. Its very close to the top of letting the clutch out. Nothing loud or obnoxious. a small click that i can hear and feel in the clutch. shifting up/down in any other gear is fine. only taking off in first. Concerned it may become something bigger (and more expensive) i had my shop check it out. They checked everything over and found nothing. everything was tight. Their only guess was possibly a sticking ebrake caliper.

this made sense to me because i use the ebrake all the time. so to test this theory ive been parking it in gear instead of using the ebrake. and i found it doesnt change anything. still that click. Would there be anything in the clutch when it releases that would produce this click? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

There are two clutch pedal position sensors. One at the top of the clutch travel and one at the bottom of the travel. The sensor at the top of your clutch travel may be causing the "click" noise that you hear when engaging the clutch.
Still have all my hoses and check valves and proud of it!

Thanks for the reply old guy. So shouldnt I have heard this click from the day I first bought the car? Only over the last month or so I've noticed it. And why only taking off in first? Please excuse my lack of knowledge with audi. Thanks again for the help.

Normally you will not hear the switch. I am just speculating that the noise could be coming from the switch since it engages at the end of the clutch upward travel. Maybe it is sticking a little after sitting for a while. Try this: Before you start the car push the clutch in and let it out. See if you still hear the click. If you do hear it then it could be coming from the switch or the over-center spring.

Old guy thanks again. Will def try that. I also saw a thread about a similar issue someone had (click vs clunk) where you mentioned the abs check at about 3-5 mph. That also sounds similar. Either one sounds like nothing too alarming. Thank you for your insight!
