    Stolen front license plate

Backed out of my driveway this evening to find that my front plate and the mount had been jacked from my car last night. Weird thing is that I'm usually parked in the street - I let the wife take the driveway - so it pissed me off that someone came all the way up our driveway by our house to snag the plate and mount.
Reported it and all, but my question is what someone would want with a front plate? No registration stickers on it so I don't know what else they'd use it for?

Front plate is commonly stolen due to most people not noticing it as quickly as say, the rear plate. Reg stickers are easy to jack too.... they might even have them already (probably off the plates of the stolen car they are now driving). The car being parked in the driveway may have provided better cover/concealment than doing something like that in the middle of the street.

The longer the owner does not notice his missing plate, the longer the thief can attach and use the plate on a stolen car (probably being put on a similar/same model) - you sure it was taken last night? Most people can't remember when the last time was they actually SAW their front plate.

Not having a plate attached to a car will get attention very quick... and subsequently being caught in a stolen car. Having a plate that you know you can use for about 24 hours (at least - unless someone notices AND reports very quickly) leaves one less likely to get stopped. In the mean time, the dirt cricket can scan for another similar make/model, snatch that plate, and keep moving. Or, just dump the car and go for another. Just business as usual for car thieves.

I have had plates stolen off my old Wrangler and my A4, except they took the rear in both cases. They're probably using them like evil said. Report them stolen and get a new number, you don't want any thing to come back on you by association with that plate number.

Yeah filed a police report right away. And yes, I had seen the front plate the afternoon before when I was walking to my car at the LightRail station because I backed into the spot.
Luckily I have another front filler plate, but I don't want to put that on for fear of getting a ticket for not having my front plate on - they're sticklers in the city about that. Also sucks that I have to pay for a replacement set of plates since they were Alumni plates... thinking of getting Avalanche plates and just putting my college one on the wall.

^^^In that instance it sounds like someone wanted an alumni plate.... with no reg sticker residue! What college?
