Where to buy a jack aka The Widowmaker

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My tire decided that it hated air and went flat without a puncture of any kind, weird I know. Any way, I went to the trunk to discover that I did not have a jack :/ . Audi quoted me $87 for a new jack, does anyone know where I could get one online for a better price? I searched local salvage yards and they had no Audi/VW jacks. Also, what other Audi/VW model jacks could I use that would fit in that enclosure?

    Thanks

I am about to do this myself... Go down to autozone or walmart, and get a bottle jack, then wrap it in something that wont scratch your car, and put it in with your spare.

    Forget the widowmaker...

Actually, I used a friends jack from his Jetta, and the widow maker was a really nice jack and I really liked it compared to the normal scissor jacks.

Is there a specific part number or any recent Audi/VW jack will work?

Clearly by the name though, its really only dangerous if you're married. OP if you're not married, you'll be absolutely fine with an OEM jack...

Actually it is a great design if you have common sense and know basic mechanics.

It isn't. A simple bottle jack is WAY better of a design, which requires less effort from the users. I wish all auto manufacturers supplied bottle jacks. The only thing better are floor jacks, but they simply are too big and heavy for general use.

I have to agree with this, it is a good jack for its purpose.
    People
Who constantly use it in lieu of buying a real jack are the ones
Who give it a bad rep, repetive use to do all your jobs isn't what it was designed
    For.

Even my 81 VW pickups jack is quite nice, I have a seperate jack for any garage work I do. And would never trust any jack to hold up a car while I was under it

I agree. Any time I am under a car, i have multiple stands. It should be used for a quick seam jack and nothing else. Perhaps its name should be changed to "The Natural Selector"

We have a light weight aluminum low profile jack that's great for lowered cars!
