A whole bunch of problems at once.. need some help!

So yesterday I got a handful of problems my car is acting up really badly I drive a 2001 A6 2.8 Quattro Automatic

Just to make it clear I was NOT in tiptronic mode I was in AUTO!

As I was driving yesterday it start when the car taking would take off (Going out of first gear) the engine would suddenly drop revs and started over revving and jumped gear out of nowhere. I thought at first it's ok might of just jumped gear it's and old car... So I continued driving went onto the highway and probably spent most my time around 120-140km as I get off the highway the car starts jumping dropping rpms over revving and jumping VERY HARD JERKS on the car approx 5 times in a row one after the other... So I pulled over turned off the car waited a bit then started the car continue my drive home but took it very slowly as I'm driving home and the car randomly turns off as im driving going approx 30km move the car over the side (no power steering) wait a bit turn it on again and get home.

Also the day before I attempted to take a pretty hard turn I slipped a bit and my abs light start flashing with the ! sign and started beeping I thought it was just a delay because it acted up like a minute after but ever since the lights will randomly come on and start flashing and beeping.

If you guys have any idea of what this could be would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    WYK

Sounds like your trans is going. Have you scanned the car yet?

Have you check the Transmission Fluid level? It sounds like its running low. Either that or the torque converter is shot.

Before you do anything scan the car for codes.

And for gods sake don't drive the car. Your not doing the transmission any justice driving it in its current condition.

New Audi owner, so not too familiar with what it could be causing it. But I did use to own a mazda3 automatic with tiptronic and had weird shifting issues. My car would be ok for majority of the ride but it would eventually drop gears and never shift up to the higher gears with some ardent jerks. The issue was a speed sensor that tells the computer when to shift. Apparently if this sensor was dirty it will cause the car to shift erratically. I knew it wasn't the transmission because 80 percent of the time the car would shift beautifully, but out of no where it would down shift. I had the MAF sensor replaced and drives without any issues ever since. A couple mechanics told me it was a transmission issues, glad I got it checked at a couple different mechanics.

    Good Luck! Hope this helps.

Can't really check the fluid level due to a sealed transmission, but it would be smart of you before paying a ton of money to just drain the tranny and replace all gaskets, fluid, and filter. Pretty easy job if it's done correctly and it can make a load of difference. There is a great writeup on the aw forum.

I believe there is a way to check the level. There is no dipstick so its not that easy, but there is a way to check the level.
