    Non Locking Trunk

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, sorry for having 2 new topics in quick succession. So today, I had to get something out of the trunk and I opened it and the alarm went off. The car was locked but it was extremely easy opening the trunk. I relocked it and tested it again and same result. I feel this could be quite a serious security issue. Does anyone have a clue what could be happening and if there is an easy fix to it? Like a locking mechanism that is jammed or something. The trunk closes fine but still opens as if it were unlocked.

I would assume its like the b5. Check the vacuum hose going into the trunk for pressure.

Thanks! I will do that. But how do you check that and what is it exactly?

Unlike the B5, the A6 uses electric solenoids for locking which are part of the latch mechanism. The micro switches which tell the system if it is closed and locked are also part of the latch. My guess would be replacing the latch...

If i remember right there is 3 positions that the key can turn the lock on the trunk! One is to permanently lock it from the outside so you can only open it from the inside button. Mine is an 01 tho

I had that happen to me recently, turned out to be the trunk latch. It's got a bunch of plastic crap inside that breaks over time.

the part was about a hundred bucks new.

Ah, alright. So it looks like I might need to replace the latch. I would imagine DIY is quite easy

yeah pretty easy, strip off all the hatch linings, disconnect rods going to latch, then remove and reinstall latch. If you need the part I can get one for you.

try this first before buying new parts, put your key in the lock and turn it once to the right i believe one click and see if that works!

micro switche(s) on the brink, I'm sure that you might have normal operation for a while but ultimately you need a rear latch unless the internals are binding from some ridiculous outside influence.

Yeah I realized I have this prob on my 04 S-Line. Gonna try and do all the recommendations and see what happens.

EDIT: Turning the key to the right worked for me. Now to see how long it stays that way.
