Audi Club track days 2012 for Northeast - discussion thread!

Figured I'd start a new thread dedicated to the Audi Club events that are coming up in the Northeast region. First one is Limerock on May 18 & 19 here in CT. I know a couple who are going, be good to get a roll call on here.

Then there are 4 more events over the summer - I just booked my hotel for the July Watkins Glen event (will be my first time at that track). If anyone is interested in splitting the room to keep costs down, that may be good. I'll be staying at the Hilton about 15 minutes away from the track. Who else is going to that event? Possible caravan out might be good too, or if anyone is towing their car and has space for another car, might be some people (me) interested!

If any of the forum sponsors are interested in getting some track time on parts offered, I would guess some of the Northeast folks would be happy to do some testing. In hopes of keeping the B5 platform alive and kicking, I'm open to discussions!

Anyways, hope to hear from all who are attending events or who might attend and want to discuss. Since my wife won't talk cars with me, I'm left to discussing with forum members ;)

I'm in for LRP, as well as NJMP in mid-June.

Would really like to go to the Glen as well, but vacation plans and potential new job prevents me from booking anything past June.:-(

There is a chance I might be able to head down for the NASA event Memorial Day weekend for one day. Won't be able to do the June NEQ event unforunately - timing doesn't work on that one. But the Watkins Glen will be great

Limerock event planning and prep is nearing completion, so I'm expecting it to be a good one this year.

I'm targeting THursday, June 14th as my next Limerock day after the May event. It's put on by SCDA. Been trying to get a small group (5 people or so) to get a small discount on the day, but I've had no one commit...

For the upcoming Limerock event May 18-19 - anyone who needs to make hotel reservations should check Inn at Iron Masters. We try to do tech inspections there on the Thrusday before the event, May 17th, but the Inn is hesitant as they have limited bookings at this point. Hopefully a few more poeple can book up and they will support our request to hold the Thursday tech inspections there!

Hey bigdo, I have LRP on the 14th tentatively on my calendar. There's another track even on the 15th and 16th at NJMP that I'm on the wait list for. If I don't get in that, I'm in for the 14th.

I just tracked my GT-R at the BMW track day event by http://www.nccbmwcca.org/content.php at Summit Point Motorsports park. We ran the Shenandoah Circuit. It was a great time.

I might bring my B8 S4 next time. We should get some people from Audizine to go to the next event. There is one coming up: 09/08/2012 - 09/09/2012 HPDE @ Jefferson Circuit. Check it out.

Good lord you look like you're passing everybody like they're standing still in those clips! How do you do against a 'vette or say, GT3?

Would love to go to SP again, but not sure if I can plan that far ahead at this point. But if we can get some more AZ members to the June 14th at LRP, I'll just cancel my other event and go with the AZ'ers. I forwarded this link to 2 others (one a real track enthusiast and would also be interested in a SP event, too).

Hey bigdo, you saw my tires from the other thread. Will they pass inspection for the ACNA event? They have plenty of tread on them, just a little shredded near edges.

Yeah, thought so, bigdo. I am searching for a new tire right now. Likely go with the RE-11s or the S-04 Pole Positions. They both got good reviews.

You going with ACNA? If work schedule permits, I am there.

I can't do the banquet this year unfortunately (at the NEQ LRP event) cause my wife travels overseas that Saturday, so I have to get home on Friday night after driving.

Tech inspection on the 17th should be at the Inn at Iron Masters which is about 10 minutes down the road. Not sure yet if I'll make it to the Thursday tech either due to work... I'm lucky I can pull off taking Friday off, so leaving before 6pm on Thursday is pretty much out of the question!

@socfan, I probably won't do the dinner, but depends. I'm staying at a 'track house' with some people so... I may get guilted into it. I am aiming to do the May 28-29 event at NHMS and maybe the event in October at NHMS with the COM Club. Fingers crossed. I am a big fan of that track and it's close to me.

I just finished a day with COM Sports Car Club at NHMS - Loudon today. Temperature was about 85 in the afternoon and sunny. Alittle warm, but I am not going to complain considering the rain is supposed to roll in tonight.

My car did well, I have never run with COM before. Seemed like a good club, alittle delayed with session today which got annoying and communication could have been improved, but overall I met some nice people and my instructor (Miguel) who races a BMW was great.

I feel like after using the BBK for 2 days at Limerock and then hammering them today at NHMs, the pads are wearing....errrrrr. I didnt seem to get my tires right today. I adjusted pressures a bit and had alittle trouble getting the beast of an AWD sedan to rotate, but it was neat running the Nascar oval today.

Sounds like you had fun. What pressures were you running? Our cars are generally difficult to rotate.

What pads did you use again? the one that came with the kit? That sounds about right then. Time to get track pads, esp for the Glen!

Well, I was running 40psi in the r-comps at Limerock which worked good, and I actually let alittle out in the front on day 2. At NHMS I set it up for 40psi, but was having trouble rotating and the speeds were a bit higher, so I let some air out and again, helped a bit.

Yes, I was running the StaSiS street pads that they gave me with the kit. I think I need track pads and/or fresh street pads. hhmmm....

you've had that BBK for a while Allen, how many pads/rotors have you gone thru? Do you swap street and track pads or what?

I've had the BBK since Sep of last year. One set of pads (XP10s) went through 3 DEs, 6 days. At the fourth, they made me change them. Changed to XP10s again, but I've gained some speed, now it only lasted 3 days. Still about a third pad left, but most DEs want to see at least 1/2 pad, so will ask you to change them. In a pinch, I'd use the 1/3 that's left. I'm now on RP2s, Carbotech's endurance compound. Used them at LRP and 1 day at Lightening (the other video I posted) and still lots of meat on them.

I've seen you how you drive, go with XP12s or RP2s, you can use them. But be warned, someone else I know used XP12s and he toasted them in 2 days of tracking. He's super aggressive at the track. You need track pads, dude!

bigdo, saw you are signed up. Don't know if you saw this link at the end of the most recent email - data tracking for $70, and if you are the first 10, you get a 2nd session with Traqmate. I signed up. Not a bad way to see if it's worthwhile getting a unit...

great job Allen on the brake pad reviews. I know you have gone thru some tires too! how about rotors with that BBK...ever replaced them?

Haha, that's a compliment, dude! Fast and aggressive, like my friend Psykhotik from the B8 forum.

Went thru 1 set of rotors already, but that's my bad. I used crossed drilled rotors when you're not supposed to. They started to crack so now I have slotted rotors. Wrt tires, I went thru the OEM Contis in 4 track days, 10K miles. Could've used them more for street, but they started slipping/screeching there too, so went w PSSs, many people's favorite street tire. I chunked mine bad from 3 track days and 2k miles, so now on Bridgestone RE-11s. I used these at LRP and at Lightening and I like them so far. Should hold up thru NJMP in mid June. The consumables are really adding up.

Part of the problem is insufficient camber causing higher than normal wear on the tires. The new Ohlins should fix that!

yeah, I want some new 19" tires and have looked at the PSS's, but... very pricey. I will be doing a thorough check on my rotors and pads next week to see the wear after 3 track days and go from there.

Thanks for the compliment! It should be together in the next few weeks. Im going to have a nice long break in period before i get it tuned. Hopefully after i get it tuned, i can join you guys for some track days.

I am not headed to the NJMP day - I'll be away on business that week. Next event is the Glen in July, which I can't wait for!

Wish I could get out more - time and finances don't allow though.

Doubt I will make Watkins Glen now. I was planning on it, but I have the chance to work the NASCAR event in July at Loudon and am taking my dad to meet the drivers and hang in the pits (I work for State Police, so it has some perks). Dad loves NASCAR. That being said.... any Audizine members doing other events?

My track days are winding down quickly. Aside from the NJMP tomorrow/tues and the glen in july, not sure which other track events I'll be going to at this point.:-(

Yeah, I'd like to hit 1 or 2 in Agusut / September and maybe the one in NH in October. Wish I had time and funds for more, but... if I get 5 in this year, that will be an increase from last year and the year before, so...steadily getting more and more in.
