I just bought my first Audi: a 2011 S4. What a fantastic machine!
However, despite the car's amazing quality and feature set, I am stunned that I cannot pair my iPhone or similar Bluetooth-enabled device with the audio system and stream music! This is very commonplace in the automotive world and has been since at least 2009.
As best I can tell, the MMI system in my S4 (without NAV) is generation 2 (G2) as the control nob does NOT have a joystick in the middle. This should mean this device (Audi Bluetooth Streaming Adpater) should work in my vehicle.
Now to my questions:
- Am I correct in my assessement that my car is MMI G2?
- Will this Bluetooth adapter work along side the existing Bluetooth adapter in the car? In other words, installing this won't prevent me from also using the other Bluetooth radio for phone functionality, will it?
- When streaming via this adapter, I know I will lose the ability to see track/artist information on the MMI display, but will I still be able to use the "Next Track" button to skip a song (say in Pandora)?
I just sold a 2010 Camaro and I was able to pair my phone with two onboard Bluetooth radios. One for phone functions and one for streaming audio functions. I was able to advance through tracks via the steering wheel controls on the Bluetooth device. I was able to take calls. It all worked seamlessly. I want the same in my Audi, but I don't want to pay $200 and find out it doesn't bring that same level of functionality.
I'd appreciate some first-hand knowledge from someone who actually has this adapter and is using it.
Thanks in advance!
