Loud (metal on metal-like) squeal at idle once warmed up. What is it?

Just took my 2007 A4 2.0T Cabrio out of winter storage and now I have a progressively worsening squeak at idle and when no accelerator is applied .. becoming a squeal from what sounds like around the serpentine belt area on the engine. It sounds to me like bearings in something are ceased. The sound disappears (or changes to one I can't hear) whenever a little accelerator is applied.

The car threw a PO171 Check Engine Light code - which was reset by my local VW dealer. They thought the sound I am hearing may be related to some open campaigns on the car.

They told me about 3 open campaigns on the car right (started March 6, 2012) now that have to be done by an Audi dealer. Unfortunately the Audi dealer is in another city about 100 miles from here.
    Open Campaigns are: 17D9 W-UPDATE - Pressure Control Valve; 24T3 W-UPDATE - IMRC Motor; and 24T4 W-UPDATE - Fuel Pressure Sender

My concern is that I'll do more damage by driving the car that far to Audi dealer! Any thoughts on what this might be or whether driving it will do more damage?

    Thanks in advance,
    Keir

Get the campaigns done. 17D9 is probably gonna fix it. Next time you get the noise pop your hood and either open the oil cap or pull the dipstick, if the noise goes away it's a PCV issue which is what they check/replace for the 17D9

Bman, you're D man. That is exactly what it was (big relief!).
In my imagination it was some dry bearing in there grinding itself to a pulp and doing big damage to the engine.
Now -- for the stealership to get the parts (backordered) and to get the car to them to fix.
I guess it shouldn't hurt it to drive it to them since it's just a PVC ...
    Again, thanks bMan005!!
