Sunday Morning Project - exhaust content

After a ridiculous quote of 4 hours to hang an exhaust I decided to take this one on.

I settled in on the APR exhaust for 3 main reasons:
    1. Cost - running 10% off now
    2. Quiet - one of the quietest performance options - I know I sacrificed a few HP but I am OK with that
    3. Direct fit for the B7 - quad tips, no modifications necessary

All in all it took me 1.5 hours with just ramps and a floor jack and I did it solo.

I followed the numerous removal threads out there which helped a lot. But I hit a few notable moments:
    1. The sleeve/clamp nuts were 13mm not 17mm
    2. My 05.5 B7 had the flapper in the muffler outlets so I had to plug the vacuum.

Other than that it was very straightforward.

Could be worse, at least APR changed their exhaust design to 2.5". Weird that they didn't incorporate an X-pipe into their new design but oh well, it still sounds great. As long as you're happy with your purchase
A few mods here and there

Interesting that your stock exhaust had the flapper on a B7. I have an 05.5 avant also, but no flapper. Curious, what's your build date? (It's on the sticker, driver's side door jam).

Exhaust looks great, by the way. You happy with the fitment? I have the B7 RS4 magnaflow and I'm trying to decide if it's worth modifying to fit better, or if i should just buy an exhaust that was designed to fit the S4.

Yes it seems to be a very well built system. The only other one I considered was the FI exhaust but I was afraid it would be too loud. I have had cars in my past that were just plain too loud - fun to drive but too loud...

    get off my lawn...etc...LOL...

That exhaust sounds good. When I do mine I want it to be loud on demand.

Never heard of a quote for 4 hours to put an exhaust on because it should be between a half hour to a hour tops.

Yeah....no shit....a pretty highly regarded place too. Although he went off on an anti Apr rant before he gave me an estimate...

With a lift and air tools should be no more than an hour.

I considered the magnaflow for a second but there are too many conflicting reports out there as to what it takes to get it to fit properly.

I big plus for the Apr system. It bolted up with no fuss.

Doused the hangers with some formula 409 and they popped right off.

Youtube doesnt do it justice...I can assure you it is definitely louder than stock but not A LOT...in my mind it is "just enough"...and enough to turn some heads in the neighborhood...

I feel your pain. For shits and giggles I wanted to see how much it would be to put mine on...I was quoted anywhere from 2 hours plus a little extra since I didnt buy from him (exact words) to 6 hours. I told the guy thats flat out ridiculous and he said thats quick for an exhaust lol.

Moral of the story, wrench yourself if you want to know its done right - its fun and it saves you money.

Yeah...If I was in "the zone" and didnt take any breaks this would have been no more than an hour job. The worst part was breaking loose the OEM sleeve nuts...which really wasnt that bad.

The center hangers popped right off with a good dousing of 409...and everything bolted up without incident.

Thanks for the kind words!!! Sounds as mean as it looks...

I know... I was very tempted but I was worried about the fitment - some say that it is just a hanger tweak, some say you need to re-bend a pipe around the diff, some say it just bolts up...

I was thinking worst case - spend $650 on the exhaust, then another $200 at a shop to get it to fit plus time and aggravation...AND at the end of the day with a non-res unit have it be too loud.

    -VS-

10% off the APR unit which is specific to my vehicle, is resonated, and is known to be one of the quieter ones.

And yes, the hall pass for SOWO is still 50/50 so if I get up there I will look you up! I think best case is I make it up there later on SAT evening.
