Which Grade Oil is your dealer putting in?
What is your dealer using on your A4 B8?
Mine is using 10W-40, and others in the area 5W-40 or 0W-40.

I change my oil and filter myself every 7500 miles and I use Mobil 1 0W-40. This is a VW/Audi recommended oil. No problems.

I thought the majority of dealers (at least in US) use Castrol....

Penske Automotive Group dealership (Audi of Bedford) and they run Pennzoil Synthetic 5w-30. When I do my oil changes I use Castrol 5w-30.

I think my dealer intentionally put 10W-40 a thick oil so i don't burn oil. I think that's what is giving me bad gas millage and making my car feel heavy.
What is the thinnest oil I can use and within spec? Can I put 0W-30?
I went on Castrol's website and it recommended Castrol EDGE with SPT, SAE 5W-40

full synth 5w-40 ...mileage is also a factor tho.. considering most of our cars are under 50k (with a few exception) thick oil shouldnt be needed. you should bring that up asap.

What year is your car? and what does your manual say?
I guess after 2009 they figured out a better oil to use.

5w40 full synthetic, either Castrol or Mobil 1
i have a 2009 and my manual says 5w40 as well. if it's an off brand or diff grade or something just make sure the oil says that it's VW 502 approved somewhere on the bottle and you'll be fine

What does YOUR manual recommend?
If 5W40, why is your dealer saying 10W40 - to potentially induce you into voiding your warranty and incur costly repairs?
My manual and my Audi-knowledgeable independent mechanic says 5w40 synthetic - why would you consider otherwise?

My dealer uses 5-40 Castrol. I top it off with 5-40 Liqui Moly (German made).
