Looking at a Coupe GT

Hey guys,

I'm just browsing the local CL and I came across this little gem. I've always wanted one as a project/beater car they seem to pop up every now and again. I emailed the guy about which engine, drive train, miles, and for more pics. He wants 3900 but I have a serious hard time paying that much for that car. Mostly I'm just looking for a relief car from the V8 so I can have a little less gas costs.


Any thoughts on this car or other things to look out for?

Turns out it's a FWD with 177k. Living in Colorado I'd rather have it be an actual quattro, so I guess the search is still on...

Looks like a great car but I don't think it's worth what the owner is listing. These cars should go for a max of about $2k when in good shape. I own an 86 CGT and I love it. I don't mind not having the Quattro but it's always nice to have.

yup agreed, i would skip, quattro is what you want.

I think so too. My wife and I currently both have a V-8. 87 bucks at the pump tonight was a little painful.

those GT Coupes did not ever come in Quattro, only the 4 door sedans did.

Ok. I also have a S4 that is going away and I'll have an Allroad. I'm really just looking for an older more of a project car. I was even thinking about doing a quattro swap if I can't find a quattro for a reasonable price. I guess it's more for the fun of it than anything else.

Maybe check out an Audi 90 or even a 5000. Both came with Quattro models and both have tons of potential.
