    cupra lip alternative?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so I tore mine off in the mountains a few weeks back. Didn't realize it until a few days later...gone forever.

I already purchased another, but during the process I came across this...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...88#description

seems like a decent product really and a 1/4 the price...
if this one gets ripped off, thinking i might give it a try...need something to cover up those holes in the bottom of my bumper

I'd give it a shot, looks like people have installed it with good outcomes. Do it right and i'm sure it would look good.

thought the same thing. plenty of successfull audi install pics. and i like the idea of it being semi-pliable and giving a bit. every time i scrape my cupra lip i cringe.

I believe that is just garage door gasket you can get at lowes for under ten bucks. Its what you put on the bottom of the door. Of course that comes as a 'kit' with all the other stuff but....

I have seen it on other cars and it actually looked pretty good, its VERY flexible so I wouldn't worry about rubbing/scraping it on anything, pretty perfect for something that's going to take a beating, I have been meaning to try it out since its so cheap.

Currently off my car, but I ran that DIY lip on my car for quite some time. I have to remember to pick up some more next time I'm at Home Depot, looked great imo

Ok, cool. Thanks Rich. I did not realize yours was the diy? I thought you modified a cupra more than others. That is the way they can and should look.

DAMN I wish I had not bought another cupra (only to surely have it ripped off again)...

The only reason I haven't run the Cupra lip yet is because I know I'll eventually rip it off. The DIY lip looks pretty clean as well, and it's much easier on the wallet if you need to replace it haha.

tape will NOT be enough to properly attach imo. look through that ebay listing and/or link from post #5 and review how to attach it. Home Depot diy or other...

about 20 tapped holes, screws or plastic push rivets or combination of, 3M tape if desired, etc...

seriously!? that is all you used!? No adhesion promoter even? Now that I think of it, my RS4 hatch wing is just attached with 3M tape (adhesion promoter used) and the sh.t cost me over $300. It is on there good...

I guess if it costs all of $15 (and does decide to let loose no biggie), it sure beats putting holes in your bumper.

Yup, that's all I used to attach it to the bumper. Never had an issue... Even when I scraped, I would damage the lining yet the tape would still be attached securely on the bumper. I mainly stopped using the lip because I got tired of having to try to remove the left over tape lol.

so I went against the masses and attempted this cheap mod on my avant due to the fact that I am closing on a house and need to watch all my spending. I spent $32 at Lowes for Weatherstripping, 3M double sided and some automotive self tapping screws. Keep calm and Flame on.

it turned out great imo...nice work. I may have extended it out a bit more along the sides toward the wheel wells, but it looks good.

any more pics from the under side would be helpful to all.

now put some rubber on those wheels

per request... im working on the tires

  27. #27
from the previous owner and some from me the front bumper has a fair amount of scrapes from driveways and what not, I already tried to cover up a crack from the PO tapping a hitch with a europlate and this lip covers some scratches that WERE visible. Modding my car is like a drug I was itching to do SOMETHING. I'll give feedback after driving for a couple days.

I would absolutely love to know what you guys are using to adhere the lip.

I've tried all of these solutions and the tape literally slides off the rubber... 3m Auto, Scotch Outdoor, and the Ace kinda. None of them hold.

I would like to know what these lips look like when the car is moving like 65-70 mph. Dont you think the wind would pull it down kinda?
