    Test Pipe Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does the test pipe replace the down pipe & catalytic converter or does it just replace the down pipe? Haven't had a chance to look underneath the car and check everything out, but how is our exhaust system setup? Is the down pipe and catalytic converter all one piece or two separate pieces?

Whenever I search for test pipes it says it replaces the cat but when I search for a down pipe it says it connects to the cat.

A test pipe only replaces the CAT, something like a downpipe from 034 will bolt up to the turbo, and go to the flew pipe.(at the end of the oem downpipe)

For B5, B6, and B7 models, the downpipe and catalytic converter are separate pieces.

The stock catalytic converter is a major restriction, and can be replaced by a Test Pipe or High-Flow Catalytic Converter, both of which bolt up to the stock downpipe.

You can still replace the factory downpipe with a larger diameter one if desired.

The testpipe is also in the engine bay, not under the car, so good thing you didnt go poking around under there.

Don't mean to hi-jack, but do you need to be chipped to run a test pipe or a complete turbo back exhaust?

No, you do not need to be chipped but you will probably get a cel if you get rid of the cat.

What do you have? I'm going to go with the high flow cat and down pipe, not a test pipe.

No where in this logic does it say test pipe replaces down pipe. If it replaces the cat, then whatever bolts to the original cat now bolts to the test pipe including the down pipe. I'm glad you figured things out.. good luck OP.

When I first started searching I thought the cat was welded to the down pipe. Therefore my search for test pipes and down pipes confused everything for me.

Anyway, I had magnaflow mufflers installed the other day and although they have a nice deep tone, they aren't loud enough for my liking.
