got a new set of downpipes for the car, and this is the information that i was given in a message...

"straight pipes delete the rear cats, you can have them coded out/work out an o2 defouler/spacer setup"

basically, i have never had to take a car through emissions, so i dont know what they check and if i delete the rear cat and code it out, if im just gonna have to put one back in for the emissions testing.

if they dont do that sort of check, then how do i go about just coding it out? Or, is it something that i should just get the spacer for?

If you still have the front cats youll pass the obdII test. otherwise you will need to get spacers to make the computer think they are there. coding them out will still cause you to fail

ok, so the pipes have a cat built into them, with o2 bungs before and after. this in theory, should be the only one i need?

yup, you should be fine. if you throw a check engine light for cat/ o2 sensors after install...then you will need to get it fixed, but you are fine as is.

Do we not have NOx emissions testing here in Washington?

I always thought we had fairly stringent testing here, at least in King County. Do they just test ODB2 readiness, they don't test tailpipe emissions as well?

I've only had to get one car tested in my life here so I am not very aware of what kind of tests they run.

on older cars they do. Not sure what the cutoff is but on my 04 they didn't, just OBD

they do the sniff test on pre obd2 cars, older than 1997, and maybe if they think you have messed with your car to much, but all new cars they just plug in and see what the computer is reading

Funny story..

My buddies 2001 Cobra Mustang (highly modified) was blowing blue smoke, w/ no cats when he got it tested. But he put in a 2001 ECU of a stock cobra in the parking lot of the facility. Ran it into the bay, they plugged it in, ran no codes. Bam. Passed.

so basically anything after 97 you just cant throw any codes when you go in for testing... interesting.

anybody know how to go about coding out the rear o2? im not familiar with vag com coding, or would it be a better use to just run the spacer/defouler?
