Leave the mirrors and rails bright, or not?

I'm thinking smoke Lamin-x on the headlights is a no-brainer.

I think you are so close to being fully blacked out you should go all black to complete the look, maybe plasti-dip so you can remove as you like.

re: the clear corner .. the thing is, I have maybe the only set of headlights in the known Audi universe that have never gotten any condensation inside them. I'm a little reluctant to break the seal open, lol.

I am right there with you on the condensation issue...or lack there of....

I personally am VERY anti tint on any lights....why decrease the performance of anything on you car for vanity?

I like the polished rails and mirrors, gives some contrast....as mentioned going back to chromed rings front and rear might help tie it together better.

    Cheers,
    Jim

total Knight-Rider would be pretty cool...but don't screw up the S4 mirrors doing it.
I have some extra mirror caps if you want to mess around. I'm picturing it all black, ...with ONLY the high beam reflector chrome.. .. hmmmm....

a good friend of mine opened up a high-end custom car shop... he talked about spraying the mirrors, rails, and cargo lip with clear that had some black mixed into it in order to create a translucent black. Would create sort of a "gunmetal" appearance but the brushed AL would still show through. Just tone down some of the brightwork while still making it distinguishable from the run-of-the-mill A4.

    I'm thinking that one over.

If I do crack open the headlights, I'll clear corner mod them and paint everything inside the housing black except the high beam reflector, and then skip the lamin-x.

My opinion - leave the mirror caps silver no matter what. The rails, Id lean towards yes.

I think you should either peel that aluminum/silver piece on the rear bumper first. Thats really holding off on the blacked out look from the rear. Also, spray the s4 badge as well but try leaving the red flag, curious to see what that would look like.

Oh and clear corner those suckers!!

the aluminum piece on the bumper is functionally the sill plate for the cargo floor.. plastidipping that is never ever going to last. It's one that would have to be painted with the tinted clear coat, because it needs to be pretty durable.

The s4 emblem, def going to black that out except for the red.

What did you black out your window trim with?
I have been debating doing the mine, due to annoying cloudiness.
Looks ok from a distant, but up close it looks like shit.

Black it out all the way. You're so close you might as well go all out.

I have Lamin-x on my headlights and am VERY happy with it. Its the lightest level of tint and it has very little effect on light output. Very thick and durable. Makes your lenses look like brand new as well.

It was your car that convinced me to do the Lamin-x tint.

Trim was blacked out using Plasti-dip. Took a few tries to get it perfect.. Was a lot more labor-intensive than expected, honestly.

silver stands out too much IMO, if you had more silver accents you might be ale to play it off nicely but the car is basicly all black. I say black the mirrors.

I would kinda lean towards putting the rings back on. I hte black emblems on a black car, looks like someone peeled your rings off and left the grill naked imo. Other than that i love your avant, looks really nice.

To close, you either have to go full on Bruce Wayne, or bring back some more brightwork to even it out.

Yeah, either go all in on blacking the stuff out, or find the perfect balance. I'd say do the mirrors black, and see if you like it. If not, go back to the aluminum and balance the car out.

You could probably wrap them all up in bin bags and insulation tape to see what it looks like.

I'd do the rails and see what it looks like with the mirrors as they are.

I would suggest painting all the badges darkish grey. Either that or remove the S4 badge; if you leave the red it'll look like an S-line A4.

Not a fan of ALL black cars. I'd put some sort of brushed aluminum trim on the front grille or just use the chrome rings again to add some definition and character to the look. Def leave the mirrors, gotta leave some stuff on it that's S4'ish. Otherwise it's tight.

So I have a buddy that does high end vinyl wrap jobs.. did a complete wrap on a 996tt of another friend of ours. I'm going to have him wrap the roof rails and mirrors with a carbon fiber wrap. Tempted to take the plasti-dip back off the chrome around the windows and do that in the cf pattern as well, or I may just have him wrap the chrome around the windows with flat black. I like the plasti-dip but am concerned about its' durability on the window trim.

Surprised nobody has said "HAY UR VALENCE IS GRAY LOLOL"

    Cause....it is.

I'd black that out (or CF wrap it), and leave the mirrors/rails silver. And put the silver rings back on front and rear.

    crap.. you guys are right.

So I'm thinking Plasti-dip the rear valance and S4 badge, CF wrap the rear cargo sill plate, mirrors and roof rails.

I may some day put the silver rings back on, but right now I'm feeling like I don't want any chrome on the car anywhere.

Car looks great! I think the black on black on black looks good, but is getting old. I like the little bit of silver you got now. Keep it how it is, but CF wrap rear valance, and yellow lamin-x on the headlights.

Blacked out isn't my thing, but if you're doing it ... do it all the way.

So I'm thinking Plasti-dip the rear valance and S4 badge, CF wrap the rear cargo sill plate, mirrors and roof rails.

I may some day put the silver rings back on, but right now I'm feeling like I don't want any chrome on the car anywhere.
Any idea how plastidip holds up to heat? I trimmed my valence to make room for quad tips, and wanted to black out the grill and valence section, but I didnt know if the heat from the tips would bubble/burn the rubber-paint-chemicals-stuff.

    Any idea?

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

I have the ability just not the time, lol.

However my proficiency with Photoshop is, um, not good. I can get it done but it's similar to digging a ditch with a shovel when most people would use a backhoe.
