Help with key-fob, Ive tried all the DIYs on here..
I bought a b5 s4 yesterday. It came with two keys/fobs. The guy told me that the fobs dont work. The battery and alternator was replaced a few months ago, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, but any ways. I tried clearing the fobs from the lock control module, I got the lights to flash 5 times, waited 6 second, hit the unlock button again, and nothing. (not sure if there is supposed to be anything)
But after I did that with both keys, I tried 4 or 5 different ways to program the fobs to the car. I get the lights to flash upon pressing the unlock button once, wait 5 seconds, hit the unlock button again, and nothing.. WTF! nothing is working.
New batteries, tried all programming DIYs with both fobs..
I have the ebay vagcom, will that work with the fobs?
Anything you guys can think of?

Might start by putting new batteries in the fobs. You are getting some response from them (when the lights flash the first time with the unlock in your second paragraph) so they seem to be sending a signal, and the lock controller is picking something up, but maybe they are old and weak... Anyway, the batteries are cheap and then you'll know that's not the problem anymore.
Not sure about the e-bay vag-com, I have a genuine Ross-Tech. If you can, check the lock controller measurement blocks - one of them should have 4 1s or zeros, and when you press the key on a working fob one of the digits will change if the controller is picking up the signal - I don't remember which block it is, but I think they are labeled, at least in the Ross-Tech software.

I have replaced the batteries right before i started playing with the fob programming. I will get the vag com hooked up tonight hopefully and see if I can find the addresses.

There is something to do with the key in the drivers side door and pressing unlock or is it lock?!?!? or turning the key to unlock...
I need to confirm with another RS6 owner as he had the same issue...
I have a $hitty story of Miramar Audi parts counter sales guy breaking my key fob right in front of me while replacing the battery and then looks me straight in the eye and says that he didn't break it... If my daughter wasn't there with me, I would have launched over the counter ....

I tried mine in the drivers door, and could not get the car to respond. I use the key in the trunk, and the lights flash everytime. just cannot seem to get the damn things to program!

I've had to program multiple keys And this is how I do it:
Step one: roll down driver side window (just in case)
Step two: Using one key fob turn vehicle to acc position (one before actually starting the car)
Step Three: Quickly shut door and place key fob in drivers door and turn key to lock door, while the fob is still turned to lock position press lock button once (hazards should blink). Count to three and press lock again ( hazards should blink once more) I say quickly because this all has to happen in about 15 seconds.)
Step Four: Remove key, and turn vehicle off, check the key you just programmed. Then start over with second key.
Hope this works for you. If not may need to grab a vagcom and make sure there's no other issues

Thanks Jak! I will go try. Every other thread I read doesnt say anything about leaving the key turned as you hit the button..

Here's the deal. There are only 4 memory 'slots' in the module to assign remotes to. The FLASH is to signify that the module sees the signal from the FOB. IF you have 2 or 3 fobs programmed already- you can only program one more. Here's the thing: maybe it has 3 fobs programmed, but 2 of them are lost. Maybe all 4 slots are taken.
When you go through the programming you need to press UNLOCK on the key fob the number of times that correspond to the memory slot you're assigning the remote to
Does that make sense? So, to assign a FOB to memory position three, do the procedure and the last step is 'press unlock again' . Press unlock 3 times to assign the remote to position # 3.
You may need to CLEAR all remotes from the module with VagCom to start.
I have confirmed this works many times, without question.
Disclaimer: some remotes are recognized by the module and you will get the signal lights to flash, but still will not function for lock and unlock. Make sure you have the correct remotes.

I tried to clear with just the remotest.. got the 5 flashes.
I need to get my VAG com hooked up.
How do I confirm that the remotes are correct? They both have the same numbers on them.

Just went out and hooked it up through vag com. the values read "0" all the way across. I tried doing what the rosstech site says, doesn't seem to work either.

the fobs have matching FCC numbers. But they do not have the same FCC # as the module?

since you have replaced the batteries, did the vagcom, my suspicion will be the remote defective, only way to verify get one new or used remote if that set programs the you have answer..

Is that for your new S4? I thought the S4's all had 4 button remotes like the C5's which included the trunk pop?

Vinny, my C5 remote looks exactly like these ones. Lock, Unlock, and Panic.

Guess I'm stuck in a face-lifted world then... My good friends S4 is 01.5 so it was probably a 4 button remote from then on. I shouldn't assume... lol
I did a lot of research on these keys when I was trying to adapt the new style key. I'll dig around my bookmarks and see if I find anything of use to you.

Hey vinny, You were right. My C5 key does have the trunk pop.
I just never used it and therefore forgot about it.

I have a spare fob left over from my a6.. MY 2000. Would that work? And do you know if the FCC ID# is supposed to match (module and fob)?

i did get one response from the fob when I pressed the lock button, instead of the unlock button. Waited 5 seconds, pushed the lock button again, the car unlocks.. and then nothing.

are there any error codes in Central locks system, you can check with vagcom and see any messages are recorded when you try to do programming ..

I don't know what tell other then get new remote like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-REMOTE-...ht_3469wt_1163
I have 3 button like the one on EBAY on my 99 A6, before A6 I had 97 A4 I remember had two button remote , it could be that previous owner got these from older A4 which could be not compatible with cars after 98..
-
post FCC ID fromthe remote. It should be printed on the inside of remote, visible once you split the remote. With this ID we can tell what it is for or at least people with same car can confirm that it matches theirs.

google it, you will find a lot of same keys :) , I would suggest get another set.. I suspect that there is a problem with remote , otherwise error would record in Central Lock system..
try to program those remotes to A6 if they work..

I dont know if this has any merit, but we fixed my friends car last night this way. You can immoblize key fobs to the BCM on Audis by sticking the key into the driver's door lock and turn it twice to the left. You can reactivate the BCM's recognition of key fobs by doing the same but by turning twice to the right.
Worked fine for the guy's B5 A4. Worth a try I would suppose.

When I got my A6 it had only the valet key. Started and ran fine, but I wanted the switchblade fob. So I bought 2 on e-bay from different people. Neither worked, in fact the "new" one (which supposedly was bought by a 01 A6 owner as a spare) didn't even have the immobilizer chip in it. The other was for an 01 A6, but for one sold in Brazil - different frequency for the remote.
I finally found these folks:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-REMOTE-...item19c3a5e75b
Call the number on the bottom of the page, and they can get you the exact right one for your car - brand new and worked perfectly for me for $62 each. No more foolin around and you'll have new ones instead of the ratty worn old ones. Just switch out the key blades (or have the new ones cut by an automotive locksmith ).

this is exactly why I don't plan on getting a second key from eBay, yes I have NOOBitis but I keep hearing bad stories about programming the damn immobilizer
