My Avant Build
NEW PIX ON PAGE 2
Hey guys
Just wanted to start off saying ive been a huge fan of many of your cars and wanted to show you guys my new avant
Ive been on audizine for a while some of you may remember my a3, or my 335 I know ive posted some pictures before. Anyways after a year look for a avant that had everything I wanted i finally found her. Got myself a b7 s4 avant 6mt with pretty much every option available. Started working on her pretty much as soon as i got the car.
Just so I dont take all the credit, the car came with:
Milltek exhaust (for sale by the way)
Trexturk DP's
JHM Tune
JHM SSK
VMR RS4 reps
H&R lowering springs (for sale by the way)
Now since then ive sold the rs4 reps, and installed a few goodies:
One of a kind BC-Racing Coilovers with custom spring rates/spring and shock sizes
Fog grill cut/molding
Black side markers
GTC Bentley 19x9 et41 (12mm spacer up front and and 15mm rear)
TOTAL ET 29 front/26 rear
Falken fk452 225/35 all around
I have a few upcoming mods i wont mention but a few i dont mind put out there:
Stasis 2.5 exhaust
CC Mod ( not anytime soon, not really feeling taking the headlights apart)
Custom grill trim
Stud conversion (vorshlag)
Stern Adjustable control arms
JHM shift knob/pedals
OEM RS4 Steering wheel and Ebrake handle
Recaro Sportster CS's (OEM seats in mint condition will be up for sale soon)
OEM Trunk Net (if anyone has one let me know)
OEM S4 brake clips
Powder Coat brakes/ upgrade rotors and lines
And a good amount more.
Anyways here a few pictures of the car in a small time line, as soon as i get the height/camber set and get the car aligned ill make sure to have a little photoshoot.
Quick pic of the 335

Best First Mod ever!!

Bought a set of B6 S4 wheels and did a little Black cap mod
IMG_0171 by prezzis, on Flickr
Waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive I ended up cutting up my fog grills, molded them and came out with this (also blacked out the side markers)

then got my Bentley's wrapped in new tires and did a little test fit
IMG_0156 by prezzis, on Flickr
IMG_0155 by prezzis, on Flickr
IMG_0157 by prezzis, on Flickr
Finally got the coils in
IMG_0159 by prezzis, on Flickr
IMG_0161 by prezzis, on Flickr
AND NOW TIME TO WORK! ( for those of you who have done your own coil or spring install you know what i mean when I say... those rear springs are a BITCH to take out)
IMG_0160 by prezzis, on Flickr
Finally got the rear done and decided to slap on the bentley's to see where she sat and well yeahhhhh
IMG_0163 by prezzis, on Flickr
Anyways I ended up taking the bentley's off for right now, still trying to play around with offsets to see what i want. Ended up running 12mm all around but wasnt too happy, then ran 17mm all around and loved the rear end but couldnt lower the front more so decided to step back to 12mm front, and 15mm due to the fact that the 17mm would need an extra -.3 degrees of camber to clear.
Here are a few pictures of the car as of today, will hopefully have the new spacers in by next week and the car should be all good. Im about 20.32mm fender to rim rear, and looking to get around 11.44mm up front. Anyways heres a sad sight
IMG_0165 by prezzis, on Flickr
IMG_0166 by prezzis, on Flickr
I will make sure to post some new pictures and update you guys weekly.
Hope you guys enjoy!

True, I forget you can get the regular sportster cs for much cheaper than the Audi version of them
either way, they are one of my favorite looking seats. I hate watching top gear and seeing how many cars are getting them from the factory these days......I'd love to start seeing them in cars in the US if it wasn't for our darn airbag laws

if you go directly on their site they have a application guild. No coils for b6-b7 s4's so this is pretty much the first ones. If your interested in a set let me know ill gladly help you out ordering
ALSO A LITTLE CCW CONTENT
sitting around the house thinking about fitment and well my buddy Kam let me take his ccw's off and test fit them on my car. Had to run a 9mm spacer up front and a 12mm rear to clear the calipers. Also the front def needs to come down alot more. Anyways here are some pictures

How you like the s4 compared to the 335? I'm kinda torn between to two, it'd be nice to hear an opinion from someone who has live with both. I love Audis but I like turbos and the 2.0 just isn't doing it for me...

This should be interesting. And it's too late now, but it's 1000x easier to pull the rear springs if you drop the subframe. Only takes me about an hour to swap rear suspension these days.

Do you fully drop it or just loosen it? I just loosened mine, piece of cake.

this might be a long one
well dont get me wrong i loved the 335, its a great car, i think the lines are beautiful the over all look of the car is great, the engine is a power house and all in all its a great car. Now a few things to consider, the interior in my opinion is the worst thing about the car. the seats are cheap, the doors are plastic, the nav is not a great as bmw makes it out to be. the gear box (if getting a 6mt) is possibly one of the worst ive ever had (if you end up getting a ssk then it does make a huge different) on the other hand the auto gear box is and im sorry for my language but SHIT. horribly slow and honestly auto-tragic. Now to to think the car is a horrible car, the engine sounds great, the 2 turbos are great even tho they are the size of an apple. The auto adaptive headlights are awesome! and all in all its a pretty cheap car to mod, and with little mods youll be destroying s4's. If you get the 2 door (e92) you get the auto seat belt holder which is honestly the coolest thing on earth.
NOW
the s4
its a great car, built with great quality, sounds like a monster truck with the right exhaust and dp's. The seats are great (oem recaros) the nav well you guys know how that goes. I love pretty much everything about it. the gear box is awesome (atleast in 6mt never driven an auto s4) and the torque is just great. A few things i dont like, itll cost you 19,000,000,0000 trillion dollars to make it fast. And i mean actually fast not "oo i beat some integra last night". The seats do get worn down pretty quickly (and when i say this i mean, im on crack about keeping my seats in brand new shape and my car has 50k, but they do get worn rather quickly) pretty much everything is expensive for the car, it sucks down gas like its in the dessert and would kill its mom for some water. the headlights flicker (to get the dipping head light fixed or better legitimately fixed its more money than jesus). But at the end of the day its one hell of a car
SO
both cars have their ups and downs, they both cost roughly the same to maintain, the 335 does get better mpg (if you dont really care then that might not be a selling point) and at the end of the day is a wee bit cheaper to mod. The s4 is a bit more exclusive not EVERYONE and their mother has one (like the 335). The build quality in my opinion is better.
All in all id drive both and see what your more comfortable in. I think both are great cars but both unlike many will tell you are NOT the same type of car, the appeal to two different types of drivers. The 335 is rwd which is awesome, I know i might just get banned for this, but quattro.... not the shit to be honest. Actually personally not good at all, and ive had 3 audis with quattro.
anyways thats me haha

yeah i know this, but i had a set of spring compressors so why not right ahha. plus my new rear springs are so tiny that i didnt even have to do anything to get them to fit haha with everything bolted off they pretty much wanted to fall out
QUICK QUESTION TO YOU GUYS
my exhaust is dipping a bit in the rear so im probably going to remove it completely, A to polish the entire thing but I also wanted to replace all the exhaust hangers. Any of you guys come to this issue before? Wheres a good place to buy the rear 2 and the front 2 hangers?
thanks in advance!

I don't even use my spring compressors for the rears anymore. And I know what you mean about the shorter springs.
And now you guys have got me curious about this seatbelt robot. I've never seen it in action, got any vids or anything?

The seatbelt arm is cool, but the cynic in me is curious to see how long it takes for the first lawsuit. The other cynic in me (there are a few) wonders if that was really the best engineering solution they could devise. Anyway... Totally digging your Avant. Aside from the obvious - price - fuel economy did factor in for me, which is why I ended up with an A4. Nonetheless, I would absolutely love a B7 S4 Avant.

Thanks for the write up. That's funny that everyone is talking about that seatbelt thing, one of my roommates in college got a 335 when they first came out and to this day if any of us get in a coupe we talk about it. It has a lot of cool features but that's def the best thing BMW has ever done!

I remember how big of a pain it was in a 2-door e36 to reach for the seat belt, IIRC the e46 was a little better (or maybe I'd grown a little since the e36 days) where you could just help extend your reach by using your other arm to push the one that was reach, kinda like putting yourself in a sleeper hold. I've never sat in an e92 but what a great little contraption!

lawsuit i dont see happening anytime soon, i mean this has been out on the market for 5 years now? and i mean dont get me wrong i have seen then malfunction but thats really about it. i think its pretty cool tho.
to be honest i actually wanted a TI avant but after looking for a while and not really finding exactly what i wanted i decided to go with the s4. I mean it was a bit heftier as far as price but all in all a great car. Ive had 4 2.0t's so i guess a little change is always good

the e36 is a hugeeee pain in the ass atleast in my opinion as far as the seat belt, always feel like im about to dislocate something trying to reach for the belt, on the other hand the e46 i never had been issues with seeing as the seat belt would usually rest on the seat lever so it was a bit easier i suppose
Anyways a little update.
SO i was expecting my new custom built spacers to arrive today but unfortunately adaptec is taking their sweet time. Was at a buddies house and got a call that one of my buddies bumper got ripped off

Seeing as his bumper was off, and had to help him work on his car, and the others were washing theirs, I decided to take my bumper off and do a little side project. Never been a huge fan of the chrome grille trim nor the grey grille and rear valence themselves, I didnt want to do the whole blackout thing or the rs4 grille because personally i think no one really keeps their oem s4 grille. But anyways decided to do something a wee bit different
took the front bumper off and removed the grille, then took everything off the grille do a little creative project

so finally got my custom spacers in from adaptec.
not insanely happy seeing as it took them 5 days to ship, a total of almost 2 weeks, also i ordered the fronts as 12mm and got basically 13mm's. Im not going to make a huge deal out of it seeing as ive been waiting for these forever.
Ill make sure to put them on the car tomorrow and should finally have some pictures of the car on the bentley's. Still have to roll the rear a bit more, possibly the front as well. Also have to lower the front another quarter inch, and adjust the damping in the rear to full stiff. This way hopefully this week i can get the car aligned and cambered just the way i want it.
anyways here are some pix of the spacers.

very nice build, I think its too low also, raise it a little so if you had to do a complete 360 turn you could or dodge something like tree falling in the road, or a freakin giant rock falling off a dump truck.. I actually hit one of those one once... tore my tire right off my rim and smashed my lower valance..not a happy day... now I stay back 200 feet for a reason...LOL...
that next to last shot of the side in the garage, you got that thing looking good. were you going to put a bentley spare at? roof rack to carry it?

Car looks great. I agree with you that the front needs to come down a hair to even everything up

nah i dont plan on doing anything like that, the rears are already rolled but i rolled them so lightly so that the body its self wouldnt seem screwed with. and thanks i know everyone has their own taste but in my opinion id go lower if i could hahah
