Anyone here done the downpipes on a b6 or b7 S4? Willing to supervise/help sometime in the near future? I'll bring the beer. PM if youre interested.

this is something you don't want to do while drinking beer. i have done it in my b7 s4 and it's pain in the ass. make sure to have PLENTY OF TOOLS. i just have standard one small set of sockets and good thing i have a friend who is a mechanic with ton of tools. took me 6 hours to do 2 dps and the next day my neck was hurting. but it's definitely worth it.

this is something i never want to do it ever again.

f that. if you've got a 6mt it can be done after an 18 pack with ease.

Its a 6mt. I'm pretty handy but it would be good to have someone that's done it before and knows the tricks to help.

I've got to do the snub mount too. The DIY says to pull the bumper but the guys at Redmond Euro said to loosen the bottom and move it out of the way. Thoughts on that?

Any problems passing emissions with the gutted mains?

since awd cars are exempted from sniff test i think as long as your have spacer in your main o2 sensor and dont' have any code you should be fine. i think...

since the main cat is past the 02 sensors...you dont have to worry about it :) no codes or anything.

So did you leave your pre-cats in place? The DIY's I've seen show gutting the precats. Is it any more difficult to get to the mains with the same technique?

I gutted the mains as I couldnt get the downpipes out. So I was able to do this while it was on the car.

I like that method much, much more than farting around pulling them off the car. Would you mind PMing or posting a brief DIY on it? Do you feel like you got some performance gain?

I just did my downpipes two weeks ago. Where are you doing the job at and when? I may be able to swing by and give some pointers. If your doing it on jackstands get a creeper and get 3/8 drive swivel ball universal, way better than the regular universals that bind up all the time. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog Your life will be much easier, especially with the creeper

I pulled the clamps off the middle, seperated the exhaust back (just pushed it back), used an air impact chisel to break up the cat, shook the dp till most of it wiggled out, pulled the rear o2 sensor out, stuck an air hose to it and blew the rest out. Reconnect the clamp and your done :)
and yes, mine looked pretty clogged, so Im at least back to stock performance lol, but I feel I got a little bit out of it.

Ive got some shop space rented in Kent on the 21st. With a 2 post lift. I'm still trying to decide between Piggies, Billy Boat or the JHM. Which ones did you install?

Hows the drone on the highway? Resonators in your catback?

drone isn't bad, I think the awe I had on before had more drone than this. Kind of wish I would have gotten smaller or no resonators for more popping after I downshift.

Gotta love the popping, my vr6 had great popping on decel with magnaflow, the s4, not as much. Hoping to gain a bit with the downpipes.

Put in the Tranny mount, rear diff mount, and rear sway in this weekend. Holy shit what a difference. It's like a different car. Cant wait to get the snub mount in. And the downpipes.
