Tragic while backing up the car
So pissed off. The whole wheel fell in. Now I gotta call the towing truck. What a luck.

Is your car being held up by the wheel? I'd jack that car up until the tow driver gets there.

Holy crap!
The only thing I can think of is he put spacers on the wheels without extended bolts... meaning the bolts were only screwed on maybe 2-3 threads...
Could this be it?
At least this didnt happen

Ouch,,,feeling your pain pal.
Don't you have 15 and 20mm spacers? Possible you put the swapped the bolts as they should be different lengths.
With that I just got the same BBS CH-R wheels and test fitted them today. Noticed that with no spacers and the oem bolts they only had 15mm of thread engagement while the oem's have 20mm. Can anyone attest to that fact that the BBC's need longer bolts than oem's? I'm guessing you need at least 20mm of thread engagement.

Those don't look like DRA, with their own bolts.

I did have the extended bolts which are the same on the other side with no problem.

You will not need longer bolts but you will need new bolts because OEM wheels uses ball-seated lug bolts and most aftermarket wheels, including BBS, uses cone seated bolts. Did you not get the proper hardwares when you bought the wheels ? If not, I would contact your seller and ask for the centering rings and proper bolts.

Well if it makes you feel any better, some people actually drive around like that because it's "Hella Flush".
If you posted that photo on Stance Nation, you'd probably get positive comments about how good it looks.

I bought them used from another member but they did come with the centering rings, 15mm spacers and longer ball seat bolts. But when I tried fitting them on without the spacers (Being shipped seperatly) the oem bolts only stuck out 15mm and not the 20mm that oem's due. This would be due to the different depth of the bolt bore.
Just searching the internet it looks like they use conical bolts and not the ball seats...DAMN good thing you posted and I checked and didn't put them on. AND how the hell was the seller driving around on them!

1) you night could have been much worse you are very lucky this happened on a drive way and not at speed
2) you bought spacers that did not have the hub centric ring on them? fuck that, get new spacers and bolts entirely and flame the seller
sorry that the shittyness happened, i don't think they are fucked up beyond all recognition tho...
the mental image i have going on right now is pretty funny

Before you start to organize the mob, you should know that the OP had noticed an issue with that particular wheel earlier in this other thread ( http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...for-the-summer ). Now, considering 3 out of the 4 wheels were mounted correctly, I would say that installation error is more likely than a hardware issue since spacers and bolts are sold in sets.

not all spacers come with appropriate bolts. That's a generalization.

Ball seat lugs will technically work fine in cone seat holes, though, if tightened too much, they will create a groove in the tapered bore. Of course the question here is are they sticking out enough from the BBS wheels?
-
I know they'll fit but their cheap enough to just get the right ones. My main concern was the bolt length as that caught my attention right away. I'll be ordering new ones as soon as I receive the spacers so I can measure for proper bolt length. Old school thread engagement rules is it should be 1-1/2 times the bolt diameter or in our case they should have a 20mm thread engagement like oem.
And another important thing to check for especially when using H&R 20mm DRA series of spacers is to make sure the bolts your using DO NOT stick out past the wheel more than 20mm. Otherwise you'll be bottoming out the bolt on the hub and not securing the wheel to the hub. This happened to me with my new winter wheels (TSW Nurburging). The bolts that came with it stuck out 21mm which would have resulted in them bottoming out.

heh, me too, stock bolts, with my winter Volk TE37's were hitting the hub. I was pissed, so I mounted each bolt in a lathe, and turned it down to a shorter length. I really wanted to mount my wheels that day.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but isn't the stock lug bolts 27mm? Based on the above, wouldn't the stock bolts bottom out on the hub?
