stripped bleed screw hole on rear caliper

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so i got a pair of speed bleeders and used them on the rear calipers (used them then replaced with regular bleed screws) and they just took the threads from the caliper with them. I picked up some helicoils and new bleed screws but i dont have the proper sized tap. would throwing a regular old bolt in there till i either get the right sized tap or new caliper be a problem?

Yeah because you would have no way of releasing the air that is now in there.

this happened to me about 2 months ago. re machined the hole. I milled it out over size and then press fitted a bushing in it with standard threads in it. I went and got a bleeder valve from autozone for 3$ and done

Take it to a machine shop and say "please fix". I'm sure it would be cheap.

Get new bleed screw with diff threads, tap accordingly and done. Otherwise you could throw the bolt in like you said and bleed the brakes by cracking the line open at the caliper.

thank you for the offer, but it might be too much of a hassle. I took a caliper off my sisters broken a6 (bent some valves) and im running on those right now. I need to rebuild the ones i have off right now anyways. Need to either cut down the tap i have or find a flat bottom m12 tap. I was originally just gonna use a helicoil with some thread locker on the outside but my tap bottoms out before the widest point. Im looking around for some threaded nuts to see if those would work

Happened to me a month ago on my front calipers. Ended up putting in an M10 1.5 bolt for. Advanceauto. The coarser threads were enough to make a tight seal. I won't keep like this forever since I can't bleed it right now, but seems to work for now. I've checked for leaks several times.

does anyone know where to get good prices on new front calipers. ECS $600! I found some through Napa for 150 but I don't think they are OEM at all. Has anyone tried those and are they any good?

Mr.Awesome - good luck. Maybe the bolt I listed above helps you.
