    Updated Matte-Black Vinyl and Plasti-Dip S4. "Pictures"

This little project was inspired by the E90 bmw post that went viral sometime ago.
The project ran me around $300 and way to much patience. The time it took me to vinyl the car was about 20+ hours to complete so I got annoyed and I decided to plasti dip the rest of the panels. If you're going to do this project for your whole vehicle I recommend going with the plasti-dip route over the vinyl. The vinyl was to hard to work with and was a pain. My only regret is that I wish I would of bought the vinyl designed for vehicles. As You can see it is possible to vinyl your car with the cheap stuff and holds up well but the time you spend applying it isn't really worth the time and effort. Yes the expensive vinyl is a couple of hundred dollars more but at the end of the day it's worth the extra money. Going to keep it on for a couple of months and remove it and go with a matte-gray plasti-dip idea. I also got about 10-15 yards of the vinyl left over from the project that I'm selling. make me an offer+ free shipping.

Is lint or any other contaminants that float around in the air ever a problem? I always figured it'd show through...

I noticed that too (and the Merc getting its wheel emblems dipped in the background!). Not a bad thing, the matte looks awesome. I just noticed and was curious.

Wondering, because I've got a Nogaro and was going to wrap the roof gloss black; did you leave it unfinished because it was more difficult than the rest of the car? I'm assuming the sunroof/xm antenna would make it minorly annoying, but overall its a flat sheet right? Curious about how to finish the corners/edges of the roof that butt up to glass or the rack bars, as it'd be hard to wrap there. Any links to previous projects/step-by-step DIYs that helped you, and would help a first timer like me?

so. . . why did you not wrap the fenders or bumpers? I know the bumpers are very difficult to wrap, but I'd imagine the front fenders wouldn't be horrible. I would just think that surely you can tell a difference in the two materials when you really look at it in person.

I left the roof DP because I didn't like the way It turned out as a whole. The roof is basically one of the easiest parts of the car. The sun roof is also an alie for you to get air bubbles out. So in reply to your question you should do your roof it's easy and worth the time. I messed up on the rear quarter pannel and the top side pillars. The reason for that is that I was in a rush but if I would of spent an extra day redoing it, without a doubt it would of been perfect but I just had enough with it. I pealed off the not so good areas of the car today Vinyl and PLasti-Dip parts. Even tough they've been on for only a couple of weeks. I've had the craziest weather here in TN with one day hitting 50 and the next raining and today being in the 80's I feel as if it was a good couple of weeks of testing. The removing process is as easy as can be especially if your in the sun. Some of the things I noticed is that where I ripped the vinyl when applying it to the car that it shrunk even though I matched both edges almost perfectly to each side of the rip. When applied you could see only a tiny line the vinyl did shrink with the crazy weather, revealing the DP paint with a 1/2 inch line of the DP paint job no longer than 4 inches long. So the vinyl does shrink under temperature change. The Plasti-Dip on the other hand stood up well against the weather. The PLastidip your car website recommended you put 5 coats so I put close to 7 to on the car which is holding up perfect. With the applying process I did have one day where polan and other dust particles did make an effect on the process. It didn't do anything severe just an annoying cleaning process for the vinyl afterwards. My recommendation is to do it in the garage with the garage doors cracked. I did the bumpers In Plasti-Dip because the vinyl was really hard to apply in concave areas. It wasn't impossible but as I mentioned before I have no patience and I wasn't going to spend 5 hours on bumpers when I could do it 1. They match and coexist pretty well together my only problem was overspray another issue with laziness. You can only notice the difference when you put your hand to feel the texture of both the vinyl and Plasti- Dip. After about 12 hours the project began more of a testing project. A testing Project to see trial and error mistakes to see if I can mix and match and to see different methods of applying the vinyl with different techniques on how to get rid of air bubbles, that sort of thing. The project I would have to guess is about a 78% out of a 100%. I Will be doing this again and be perfecting all my mistakes with what I learned.

The S class is my next project I'm planing on Plasti-Diping some accent pieces so the car looks more in depth. Later tonight I'll make a bundle of links in Which I used to do the project. I didn't find any DIY posts searching on the internet within 4 pages of links but I'm sure they're some on some other forums but I couldn't find any. I'll send you the updated links tonight.

I like my cars shiny and glossly, so this would never be an option for me

-However, Your patience clearly shows here. If the Matte color is what you like, you did an excellent job. Congrats truely!
