I'm looking for ideas on wheels. I don't have a certain brand or model in mind, but I was thinking about black wheels with a polished lip. I'm open to any suggestions :)

The C7 S6 five spoke wheels in gray with the polished lip would be my vote.

You got a whole lot of disposable money you want to spend on them? If so:

although you're going to need to get rid of that wheel gap to go with almost any nice wheel

This. Nice wheels on a non lowered car just looks, off. And I'll come out and say that I'm not a big fan on the dark center + polished lip look, most of the time. Ben pulled it off well on his B5 with those ADV.1's. But that success is few and far between IMO

Coilovers are scheduled to arrive this Saturday :)
One other thing I should mention - as far as wheels go, I want to stick with 18s. Even when I get the coilovers on, the ride isn't going to be slammed. I'll still have about a 2 finger gap. I know aesthetically 19s would look better, but where I live, the roads suck so bad, so I want to stick with the 245/40/18 size to absorb as much of the crappy roads as a can. I certainly don't want to go thicker than that, but for my wife and 1 year old's benefit, comfort > looks.

18's? On a big car like that I'd go 20's. Aren't the factory S-line wheels 19's anyways?

Nah, they come with 17's stock, 18 on the higher-end models. With our crappy roads here, on 19s, I'd need to invest in a better health plan to cover all the visits to the Dentist I'd need to make from my fillings falling out of my teeth.

A6's are meant to be cushy. Even with coilovers and 19's I think you'd be okay. Hopefully Bryzf1 can comment on the ride quality when he had his setup. I'm sure he was running much lower than you will be, plus weren't his wheels 20's?

Exactly my thoughts. Yes, I believe he was running 20's and they looked perfect on the car.

No, it won't be okay. I've bent rims in past vehicles that were dropped w/low profile tires - I've learned my lesson. That type of setup is just not conducive to the streets here. Low profile tires on the crappy roads here suck! I've got friends with lowered cars with low profile tires and it there's no other way to put it other than it just plain sucks. I try to avoid riding with them if I can help it because it's that bad. The wheel repair places here make a killing! If I lived in an area with nicer roads, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm already going to be compromising the quality of the ride to a certain extent by putting coilovers on it and dropping it a bit (I want better cornering), but there's no chance that I'm going to compromise the ride quality more than that. Not only do I have a wife and kid, I also have professional colleagues that I'll drive around from time to time. If you experienced the roads here, believe me, you'd understand. Potholes everywhere, uneven paved roads, inconsistency with how they pave a road (cement vs asphalt, etc) which equals bumps, etc. Even the car with the stock suspension right now, the roads here annoy the hell out of me. I was half tempted to not even order coilovers just for that reason, but I do want better handling, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of comfort, but not any more.

Wow...catching up and boy did I miss some good stuff. :) Darnit...I knew I should've said, "Famous last words..." when you mentioned staying stock. Total IMO/FWIW...mild drop and 19's will be perfect. Best of all worlds...look, ride, and handling.

I don't know what the heck I was thinking when I said that! That's probably the dumbest thing I've ever said! I'll fully admit it -- I'm eating my words LOL
I had a very reasonable angel on my shoulder, but the devil on the other shoulder got into a brawl and kicked the angel's ass. The avant is going to have a very different look here in a couple of weeks.

Painted corner markers (the orange had to go), H&R rear sway bar, and wheels. It's going to look quite different after tomorrow. I'll post up pics once it's done.

Not completely finished yet, but here are a couple of pics. KW V1 coilovers w/BBS RS-GT 19x8.5" w/+32mm offset + H&R Rear sway bar. The front orange corner markers are getting painted. That's the part that we're waiting on.

oddly enough 19's look really small on such a large car. It may be the tires though, what size are they. Often a lower profile tire can make wheels seem smaller.

The tires are 255/35/19

I was thinking the same thing. Car looks good, but the wheels do look really small. Lipped wheels often look smaller than they actually are too

It's ironic that when it had 20s on it, I actually thought the wheels looked too big for the car. Plus, when it had 20s, I think it was a bit lower than what I have now, too, which makes a difference. I didn't want to alter the appearance too much as I do have to drive colleagues in it from time to time, so I didn't want to make it too "bling bling" if you know what I"m saying. Anyways, compared to this, it's a lot better

The end is sitting a little lower because I have my old tires, rims and stock suspension in the back.

Much better indeed! You could alwaus try a 255 40 tire on them. Will fill out the wheel well a bit more and give a little less of a harsh ride. That's what I am running on the AR and compared to the 255 35's I had on my S6 with H&R springs, it's like night and day! Awesome progress so far... always loved that car!

I actually like that height you have in the rear. Helps the wheels look less small IMO. I'd say adjust it so that it's always that height (front & rear) and you're golden.
