Quattro de Mayo: May 3-6, 2012
Hey Guys,
Registration for QDM is open as of today! Registration and swag prices go up on 4/4 and the MINIs on the Dragon Folks are drooling over our block of rooms, so register and book your rooms early. When you register as a driver, you get an event t-shirt, keychain, sticker, lanyard, sponsor swag and banquet meal.
What is Quattro de Mayo?
Quattro de Mayo is a gathering of Audi (and other European car) enthusiasts from across the Southeast. Each year, we spend as many as four days driving some of the curviest roads in the country, and spend the evenings making new friends.
This event began 7 years ago when a group of Audi Club members from Ohio took a trip to East Tennessee to drive a stretch of road named the Tail of the Dragon, which packs 318 curves into 11 miles. But the Ohio crew was not alone that weekend, as a group from Tennessee had also organized a drive and the two groups soon crossed paths. So, they decided to make it an annual event, and dubbed it "Quattro de Mayo". Each year, the event has grown bigger, and the friendships have grown deeper.
Come for as few or as many days as you please, and drive some of the most amazing roads in the country (not just TOTD) with some really cool people!

The registrations just keep coming in!!
We now have two registrations from drivers from Canada. The "Furthest Distance" award will be hotly contested this year, for sure!
Other stats of note:
-We've already passed QDM 2010 for # of attendees
-Four TTRSs have registered. We're working on something special for them.
-Several companies will become official sponsors in the very near future.

Make sure you guys check in on the status of the dragon prior to your departure, TDOT is known to be pretty slow with clearing rock slides, not to mention TDOT's plan to "stabilize the hillside" after debris removal.

Edit: Looks like you guys should be good to go!! http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/ma...after-massive/

Would love to, but unfortunately, I won't know for sure until closer to the event date due to work.

The QDM planning team had a great recon trip this weekend up to North Carolina. The drives this year are going to be awesome and the resort is in a great location. Stay tuned for video!!!

Dumb question from someone who has never attended this event before: is QDM kid-friendly? Or should I be hiring a sitter? (I've got a 2 month old and 2 year old, I don't think the 2 month old can handle major G forces yet LOL.)

I have never been either and this will be my first year. I know one of my friends is bringing his 3 year old and 1 year old. The entire event is not all about driving, and there will also be some more relaxed drives and some more aggressive drives so you can choose what will best suite you. Should be fun, sign up

Like James (Black3.2) said, we have several people bringing children. Each year, we work to make the event more inclusive for wives and children. We offer a slower paced drive both Friday and Saturday. The socializing during the drives and at dinner (and beyond) is lively, but not inappropriate for younger ears. The resort offers spa services (including chair-massages for after a long day of driving), horseback riding, a pool and game room. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is just down the street, if you want to take the family rafting or tubing one day. Nearby Bryson City is a neat little town to explore, too.
Oh, and we are working (99% sure at this point) to setup a screening of Truth in 24 II, which otherwise won't be out until late May.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

In case you were wondering who has already registered for Quattro de Mayo, check out the list on the QDM website! Considering that we're still a few weeks out, this is a huge list!
I'm *really* excited for this year. We have an amazing list of drives planned, dinner on-site each night (13 Moons restaurant has a great bar, BTW), and we'll be screening Truth in 24 II. Yea, it won't be officially released until late May at the earliest, but AoA is hooking us up.
As an aside, we've freed up some rooms at the HQ resort by expanding our block of lodge rooms and moving a few people (myself included) into rooms in shared cottages. Additionally, there are 5 other recommended hotels nearby. Check out the lodging page for more info. But ACT FAST if you want a room at the HQ!

Without invading anyone's privacy, is it safe to assume that those who list (+2) beside their name are bringing one of their children? (I'm the one who inquired about whether or not QTM is a "family-friendly" event, so I'm interested to know who else might be bringing children too.)

Just wanted to bump this thread with a free giveaway for some lucky person on AZ.
I won free registration for two to QDM and some other swag from Jim Ellis in a contest, but I can't make it that weekend and neither can my other Audi-owning buddies. If you would like to go and haven't yet registered, PM me and I'll get you in touch with the right people.

So Will can't make it either? Once you have somebody, send them my way and make sure to have them thank Jim Ellis Atlanta on Facebook. Oh, and let me know your shirt size, Fourplay.
