    Giving it a longshot

So December rolled around and my clutch starts slipping and by February it's barely drivable. After losing my mind thinking the RS4 pressure plate and disc, along with new slave cylinder have gone bad prematurely since the install in April 2010, I've made a realization. This whole time I've been thinking my clutch went bad and I haven't checked my tranny fluid. I go to ECS site and lookup their tranny service kits and what do I read, "Does your transmission shift hard when it's cold or intermittently grind when going into 2nd?." One of the problems that sprung up right after the clutch was replaced along with soft pedal feel. So tomorrow I'm changing the transmission/center diff fluid, already purchases the fluid and pump, and hope for a miracle happens to save me the money of another clutch job worth 17 hours of labor at a local shop.

If the clutch on a manual transmission is actually slipping, then changing/refilling the fluid is not going to fix it. If the input shaft seal failed, it could leak gear oil onto the clutch causing slippage, but the clutch disc will be toast at that point. If that's what happened, in addition to a new disc, you will need to fix the leak...
    .
It actually sounds more like the clutch hydraulics need to be bled (soft pedal feel)...

The best quote I got locally was $1630 and already inquired about replacing the rear main seal, another $80. I searched and found an Output Shaft Seal here, "http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-C5_A6-Quattro-2.7T/Drivetrain/Transmission/ES5811/." Is this what you're talking about?

What does bleeding the hydraulics entail and couldn't it also mean my pressure plate is faulty?

So I'm sitting in line at the drive-thru and I hear a thud/clunk noise. Magically I have a stiffer clutch pedal and my clutch isn't slipping nearly as bad. What the hell just happened?
