Question Decisions decisions...help me pick my next obsession

Hey guys after some hard times I'm back in the market for my next Audi. Ive had a 01 4.2 and a 98 A4 2.8, so I've had the power of the 4.2 and had a stick shift in the 2.8, now I want them together lol...however I cant afford a B6 S4 I'm trying to spend under $10k. After some shopping around I found a couple 2.7T's on the market in my area. One is a 2001 ($8k with 85k miles) and the other is an 2003 ($10k and 125k miles). I think the 03 is prettier inside and has a better ass with the exhuast tips. The question is the mileage? is it better to go 125k with a timing belt on the 03 or the 85k on the 2001 that probably needs a belt? The $2000 being financed isnt a major deal breaker I'm just concerned about tagging on 40k miles on the engine to get the 03.

They both are around t-belt mileage. The one with 125k likely had it done by now. The 1st one doesn't have sport package, thats a deal breaker for me.

How much are you looking to mod the car?

if you've got a good VW/Audi specialist in your area, or a mechanic you trust with some experience with our cars, ask if you can do a safety inspection on them.

In Canada, at least, it only costs about 200 to get an inspection done and that way you can get a better picture than JUST $ and KMs, if the '01 is in better mechanical shape it might make more sense than the '03 you could be saving yourself some future headaches down the road. I bought an '02 and almost right away had to throw in a belt. with an oil change and some minor tweaks cost me 1200.00 CDN so don't sweat having to do a belt. With the '03 I would be surprised if you end up having to do the water pump, thermostat, and some other stuff anyway which would offset the expense of the belt.

Go with your gut and with whichever model you feel happy spending every floating cent you own on!

When your CEL light turns OFF, something is SERIOUSLY wrong!

Looks like the 2003 had the price reduced to a more realistic $7,988....

Meh, neither are a good deal in my opinion.

I'd keep shopping. If I get lazy later, i'll look for you around your zip code and see if I can find something for you.

Pit was offering his stage3 car for 12k!!!

@nadatia...Thanks for the input, I'm with you on the cost of the maintenance not being a big deal. but its I'm more concerned with having to do the work right off the bat when I buy it Im already putting alot of coin out up front to get it and get registered and all the registry's nonsense. Another $1200 within the first couple months would hurt me.
@ ENDEE666....I plan on moddin' it over the next year or so, probably chip and catbacks from APR and a set of summer wheels. But after about 2 years without, I'm gonna be happy just having A car.
