    Devium iPhone Headunit - interesting

It sounds kind of interesting. Granted it relies completely on the iPhone, but I already have that with me always anyway.

I'm pretty happy with my Symphony 2+ and feel that most aftermarket stereos cheapen the interior since they can't match the Audi aesthetic, but still, this is a very interesting concept and I would love to see some OEMs carry this further.

I love the idea, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to jump on board a relatively low budget "project" like this since the likelihood of it being rough around the edges is high. If I could have simple Pandora integration and iPod/iPhone integration I would be pretty psyched sine I hate CDs and am not a fan of radio other than NPR.

Anyway I thought I would share. Looked kinda cool.

Interesting concept, but as mentioned above, I'd much rather just use my iPhone in conjunction with my RNS-E

And with your smartphones changing every year or two...IM sure thats going to work out when you have to shell out a different faceplate just to keep you "smart phone" in the dash. No thanks. Cool idea, but that company is not smart.

Its more than a dock, it runs off of your phone. I realize its mostly just a glorified line-out but it is still a cool concept.

i agree it is an interesting concept but with it being such a small screen it doesnt seem worth it. now however if you could make it work off of one of the 7" tablets that would def b a contender for the RNS-E. but as of right now im hoping to get the RNS-E and the cardholder dock simply because its form and function and its very oem looking. aswell as if my phone is not in the dock i can still just push it in and everything looks clean. which others that are ocd about hier cars can attest to if its not right its not just wrong lol.

Yea the small screen is a deal breaker unfortunately. You really need a 6" screen or bigger for it to be useable in a car. Hopefully some day soon we'll see better convergence of mobile phones and car stereos. I know the MMI system is pretty tits, but I've never had the chance to play with it at all...

Get it to work with the iPad, and you'll have a bigger and better display than the RNS-E. Google Maps with real time navigation (like what's being offered in the newer Audis) would be possible and much easier to view information. Of course I would still want it tied to the center DIS for direction information. To have the whole MMI interface displayed and controlled on the iPad would be cool.

As awesome as that would be that would seem to be rather difficult to do with how large the ipads are. Though the size be nice it would also look out of place. Plus not to mention the insane amounts of red tape needed to make it work on apple products. However with the open android market it becomes easier to do and offers a much greater range of devices. Especialy with there being several that have a 6-7 inch screen. Im not hating on the ipad. I have a first gen that i use constantly but it gets very frustrating not being able to view everything i want to view. Such as flash videos or play flash based online radio.

True. just slap together an android based custom job and it would be pretty slick without having to pay the Apple tax...

If you want to do something along these lines just custom fit your ipad to where your stereo would go... Not a smart idea for navigation yet however, what if you loose reception I dont think a phone would be a good idea. too small??

THe problem is you'd need a 3g ipad and would have to pay for a data plan just to get GPS, which is retarded. My iPhone already has the data and the GPS, just not the usable screen real-estate.

Also that link just confirms its WAY too big for our dashes. That shit would get stolen SO quick! Super GHETTO!

I could use my Wi-Fi iPad and my cell phone that has a tethering app. All this was just a thought and not a reality. I would want a system where the iPad could be an optional setup... like press a button to slide out a charging dock that will lock the iPad in place. There would be a headunit behind it that can be used if the iPad is not used or accept audio streaming from the iPad. That eliminates the temptation for theft by not leaving the iPad out on display.
